Tech Crunch broke the rumor that someone, potentially Yahoo!, was in talks with the Israeli-based, video sharing site Metacafe.com, for anywhere between $200-300M.

If the deal goes through, good for Metacafe and their two VC backers, Benchmark and Accel, but it does suggest that the greater fool theory is alive and well.  The “rationale” here is that if someone paid $1.65B for YouTube, and YouTube is the #1 player with some 23M uniques (according to comScore), then paying $200-300M for a second tier YouTube with 3.8M uniques is a good deal. 

That’s crazy talk.  But, hey, if everyone is jumping off a click… you might as well get in line.
