Seeing Jerry Yang now desperate and cornered, begging for MSFT to return with a new offer, I can’t help but think of the parallel between the Chief Yahoo! and John McCain.
McCain’s “Country First” mantra rang very hollow with his behavior in the past 6 months, and the same can be said about Yang’s “Company First” mantra which in fact was a pile of BS.
Much the same way that McCain was out of touch with main street (to quote Chris Rock: “when people are losing their homes, vote for the guy with one home”), Yang had to clue how rich and generous the $31/share offer was, because the same way that McCain had many homes, Yang was a billionaire many times over. He was not looking out for his company, he was looking out for himself.
- rejecting MSFT’s $31/share wasn’t exactly putting his investors first.
- trying to do a deal with Google wasn’t exactly putting his advertisers first.
- his behavior - and subsequent halving of company stock - wasn’t exactly putting his employees first.
You get the idea.
