The international world of fashion is abuzz over Canadian designer Mark Fast’s choice for models to present his latest collection.

Fast chose to have women who were sizes 12 and 14 to walk the catwalk in his latest designs. Many sang praises and the curvy models are booking more shows since, but there were those who were not impressed.

Fast’s own stylist apparently walked out because of the new look. The queens of the runway like Naomi Campbell thought it was a great idea!

“If the girl’s beautiful and she can model, why not?” said model Naomi Campbell.

“What a clever move I thought,” said model Erin O’Connor. “He’s demonstrating literally that what he does works on any woman with any frame.”

“While the move to make models look more like real women began in the 1990s, today’s campaigners are beginning to sense change.

“Women take on much more than just information about clothes when they see imagery coming out of London Fashion Week. And I believe that we have begun a small shift,” said Caryn Franklin, co-founder of All Walks Beyond the Catwalk.”

According to YahooNews.com

“Naomi Sims, a black model who opened the white-dominated fashion industry to African Americans in the 1960s, has died, reports said Tuesday. She was 61.

Sims, sometimes dubbed the first black supermodel, died of cancer Saturday in Newark, New Jersey, the New York Times and TheFashionInsider.com reported.

Born in racially segregated Mississippi in 1948, Sims made history in August 1967 as the first black model on the cover of Fashion of the Times, a supplement to the New York Times.

She scored another first when she made the cover of Ladies Home Journal and went on to feature on the covers of Life Magazine and Cosmopolitan.

“Thanks to her proven personal initiatives as a true pioneer, she succeeded in creating a real place for black women in the modeling industry,” said Marcellous Jones, chief editor at TheFashionInsider.com.”
