SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 19 /PRNewswire/ — Let’s be honest, with the exception of Michael Jordan and a few others, the bald look is a tough one to pull off.You see so many hair loss treatments advertised on late night television that all promise to work with great success. If this was in fact the case, then no one would be bald. Yet it seems as though the more you look around at your fellow colleagues, the more you see that hair loss is on the rise.

Many factors determine whether you will lose your hair such as genetics, stress, hormones, lifestyle, and poor diet. There are three FDA approved hair loss treatments available, but each of them have their limitations. After combing the internet, you will be completely lost on selecting a product that is right for you.

    This leads to the question....

Can you really grow your hair back?

William Gaunitz (AKA The Angry Hair Guy), founder of Gaunitz HairGrowth Centers says “Yes! We have been naturally regrowing hair on our clients since 2002 and have close to a 100% success rate. Essentially people are amazed that this is even possible, but we have overcome male and female pattern hair loss with a multi therapy approach.”

How It Works:

The Gaunitz treatment works by combining five proven steps that together create a bio-synergy for new hair growth.

-- Step 1: Detoxification of the scalp -- Specifically designed scalp
massages rid the scalp of toxins, dryness, inflammation, and the
hormone (DHT) that causes hair loss.

-- Step 2: Stop the Hair Loss -- Gaunitz topical formulas suppress DHT,
reduce inflammation, and provide essential nutrients to the scalp.

-- Step 3: Supplementation -- Advanced hair nutritional vitamins are able
to maximize hair health while providing amino acids necessary for cell
       recovery.

-- Step 4: Scalp Revitalizers -- Chemical free hair care products hydrate
and replenish the scalp while creating PH balance that stimulates hair
       growth.

-- Step 5: The Catalyst -- Low level laser therapy is the means for
ultimate scalp stimulation and healing. This FDA approved cold laser
penetrates the skin without heat or damage. When used in conjunction
with the other 4 steps of the program, the results are astonishing.

Clients have this to say about the Gaunitz program and the treatment results:

“I was just looking at my before photos and I cannot believe that was me less than a year ago. I feel like a different person. Within 3 months of starting this program the results were dramatic.”

– Glen Rosen, Scottsdale Resident

“People think I had a hair transplant and I have to let them feel the back of my head to see that I have no scars.”

– Jared Aragona of Peoria

“There is no question that Gaunitz HairGrowth Centers is on the cutting edge of hair regeneration. This program is simple, well researched and most importantly… it really works. This is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

– Cameron Klar, Phoenix Resident

Gaunitz HairGrowth Centers currently treat over 100 clients every day in the company’s headquarters located on the corner of Scottsdale Rd and McDonald Drive. “Not everyone is a candidate for this program” says Gaunitz. “We turn away 10% of the people that come in for consultations because they simply are not a good candidate for hair regrowth.”

“Our average treatment cost is $2,295 for a 6 month program” says Marketing Director Robert Beale, who also went through the program four years ago with stunning before and after pictures.

The company is currently planning a nation wide expansion. Their newest location will be opening in North Scottsdale on Pinnacle Peak Rd., just east of Scottsdale Rd. in June 2008.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 15, 2008 — ELDR magazine and ELDR.com today released the results of a national survey of adults on the “right to die” issue or what some call “physician-assisted suicide.” The survey showed that over 80 percent believe the choice to end one’s life is a personal decision, with two-thirds of adults saying they want physician-assisted “death with dignity” legal, as in Oregon.

The ELDR Magazine “Right To Die” National Survey, conducted by Knowledge Networks and statistically projectable to the U.S. adult population, also revealed that only half of adults over 60 have a living will or advance health care directive. These legal documents specify what a person’s wishes are if, for example, they are in a persistent vegetative state. Such a document could have prevented the prolonged and agonizing situation the family of Florida woman Terri Schiavo endured.

A painful or prolonged death is something everyone worries about

The survey is in conjunction with ELDR’s Summer issue cover article, “Perfect Ending,” which tells the story and reflections of a physician who had clandestinely given patients, who were terminally ill and in great physical pain, the means to end their lives. The physician profiled is not identified.

“A painful or prolonged death is something everyone worries about,” said Dave Bunnell, editor-in-chief of ELDR. “Yet too few of us plan ahead to be prepared for this possibility. Our survey is telling people if they act now, they can be in charge. You don’t have to leave this entirely to fate.”

The ELDR survey comes as Washington state proponents gather signatures for a voter initiative which, if successful, would make that state the second after Oregon to legalize physician-assisted “death with dignity.” 225,000 valid voter signatures need to be presented to Washington state officials by July 3 for the I-1000 initiative to appear on the November 2008 ballot.

Other results from the ELDR Magazine “Right To Die” National Survey include:

  • Half of American adults (49.1 percent) have parents, close relatives or friends in their senior years for whom they might eventually be considered a guardian caretaker or legal trustee.
  • 82 percent want the option, if they were suffering at end-of-life, of being sedated into unconsciousness, even though this might hasten their death.
  • 93.6 percent want artificial life support stopped if they were in a persistent vegetative state, where mental functioning had ceased and it was highly unlikely they would regain consciousness.
  • Fewer than 25 percent have a living will or advance health care directive which states their wishes if they were incapacitated or in persistent vegetative state. Only half of those over 60 do.

Complete survey results can be found at http://www.eldr.com.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) May 7, 2008 — Dr. Simon Ourian of Epione in Beverly Hills criticizes the claims made by the Italian National Research Council’s study that BOTOX® can move to the brain from the injection site. “BOTOX® has been used safely for more than 25 years with few complications. This fear is completely unwarranted and largely alarmist,” explains Dr. Ourian.

The Journal of Neuroscience article (A New Reason to Frown; April 12), draws inappropriate conclusions about the medical product BOTOX® (Botulinum Toxin Type A), how it works in treating millions of patients suffering from severe conditions and incorrectly calls into question its 19-year safety record. “Although the study makes for great eyebrow raising news the science behind the study is largely flawed,” says Dr. Ourian.

BOTOX® is the safest anti-aging treatment out there, I use it myself and recommend it to all my patients.
  • The article centers on a single Italian rat study that has no proven relevance to the use of BOTOX® in humans.
  • Importantly, the study authors did not use BOTOX® in their research. Instead, they used a research-grade, laboratory preparation of botulinum toxin that is not suitable for human use. This study material is substantially different than BOTOX® and reacts differently in the body.
  • Furthermore, the dosing of study material injected in the whisker pad of rats was approximately 150 times higher (per body weight) than the approved dose for BOTOX® to treat wrinkles (i.e., glabellar lines).
  • Researchers did not directly detect the laboratory material in the rats; instead, they inferred its presence through the use of a marker. However, this marker has not been previously used in peer-reviewed research in this manner and is not validated. The use of this uncharacterized marker brings the study and its conclusions into question, since the study’s results entirely depend upon it.
  • BOTOX® was first approved by the FDA for medical use nearly 20 years ago, has been extensively studied, and is the subject of thousands of scientific papers.
  • The data from this single rat study are inconsistent with prior research and the literature on the mechanism of action of BOTOX®. There are insufficient data to generalize the results of this one animal study to the use of BOTOX®.
  • BOTOX® has brought relief to millions of patients worldwide suffering from often severely debilitating medical conditions. It is inappropriate to create unnecessary concern and confusion among those who need this treatment by mischaracterizing the established safety of this drug.

“There is no chance that the results of this study could occur in a human. The doses used for cosmetic application are much smaller and the effects more localized. I always support additional research, but this study contradicts previous findings,” says Ourian. “BOTOX® is the safest anti-aging treatment out there, I use it myself and recommend it to all my patients.” Dr. Ourian’s Epione Medical Center, located in Beverly Hills’ “Golden Triangle,” is among the world’s most comprehensive and state-of-the-art surgery centers. Dr. Ourian has been a pioneer for laser technology and non-invasive aesthetic procedures such as BOTOX®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Lipotherapy, and CoolaserTM. LYNDHURST, N.J., April 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Seasonal allergies bloom together with plants and flowers, but some everyday devices like cell phones and iPods that have become synonymous with modern living may also be the cause of allergic outbreaks. While pollen, mold, animal dander and dust remain the world’s most common allergens, Vitals.com, the leading doctor evaluation site listing more than 720,000 active doctors, is looking beyond the season’s usual allergy triggers and bringing awareness to a new allergy phenomenon brought on by the prevalent use of modern technology.

“In addition to the typical pollen-producing allergies that are rampant during the months of spring, technophiles should take caution that some of their favorite gadgets may be the culprit of certain allergy symptoms,” said Dr. Todd Rosengart, Chief Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stony Brook University Medical Hospital and Chief Medical Advisor of MDX Medical, which created Vitals.

The increased use of cell phones and other wireless technologies have brought on hotly contested debates with claims that exposure to radiation and microwaves generated by excessive use have negatively impacted those with electromagnetic sensitivity, causing skin rashes, fatigue and headaches. For those already suffering from common allergies, studies also suggest that cell phone use is a trigger, increasing sensitivity to allergens and potentially making typical allergic reactions such as watery eyes or a runny nose worse.

Cell phones also affect users with skin allergies who may be sensitive to various metals and materials used in manufacturing. When nickel, one of the leading reactors of skin allergies, is used in the production of cell phone casings and batteries, cell phone users become susceptible to allergic contact dermatitis, an allergy that causes rashes and skin outbreaks. Like cell phones, the anodizing chemicals or the metals in some iPods can also cause music lovers to develop skin rashes and bumps after extended exposure to their portable music players.

According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, allergies affect more than 50 million people in the U.S. with more than half the population testing positive to one or more allergens. “Whether it’s seasonal, food or even technology-related, allergy sufferers can easily combat uncomfortable symptoms and find relief through medication and simple lifestyle changes recommended by a qualified doctor,” said Rosengart.

As May brings allergy awareness to the forefront with Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month, Vitals is the easiest way for consumers to access information on top specialists in their area free of charge, in order to quickly get checked out and seek the medical attention they need. Vitals features all of the critical information necessary for consumers to find the right doctor for them, including empirical information, peer review recommendations and patient feedback, compiled into one central, all-inclusive database. Consumers can also use Vitals to check up on their current doctors, including allergists, immunologists and internists. Please visit www.vitals.com/focus/allergy for the fastest way to nearly 7,500 allergists.

WILMINGTON, Del., April 21 /PRNewswire/ — For men tired of taking drugs for the common, and often devastating, medical condition of erectile dysfunction, The Penis Diet offers an informative how-to solution encompassing a safe, natural wellness plan and positive lifestyle changes to enhance performance for the long term.

For men who are not quite convinced that drugs like VIAGRA® are the best way to achieve an erection, The Penis Diet offers something they can really sink their teeth into. This informative how-to book offers a natural, safe wellness plan and positive lifestyle changes as an alternative to erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs.

Co-authored by Damon Z. Cozamanis, D.C. and Marc D. Grobman, D.O., F.A.C.P., The Penis Diet, offers solutions that, unlike ED drugs, target the actual cause of problem and promote long-term health of the penis.

“Drugs only address the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, and come with a host of unwanted side-effects,” said Grobman, a board-certified internist. “In the Penis Diet, we offer a comprehensive plan that addressed one of the main problems associated with ED-lack of adequate blood flow to the penis.

“Instead of taking a pill for a quick fix, we provide answers that do more than just improve sexual performance for a few hours. What we present in this book can also bring about positive changes in other aspects of life, such as self image, relationships and job performance — in and out of the bedroom.”

After just a few months following the recommendations in The Penis Diet, men will start to notice longer and firmer erections and enjoy more powerful orgasms. Beyond being a safe, natural approach for preventing or reversing ED, the book is advised for men of all ages who are concerned about the health of their penis and want to prolong their physical enjoyment.

The approach Drs. Cozamanis and Grobman took in writing The Penis Diet reinforces the lifestyle-change component that is critical for long-term results. Although the book does contain dietary suggestions and plans, it also educates the reader on other physical and emotional conditions that may contribute to the problem, gives insights into the “how and why” of treatment options that really work, and guides the reader on how to integrate the best changes into his sexual relationships.

“ED is such a sensitive subject, and many patients go for the quickest and least conspicuous solution … which is not necessarily the best,” said Cozamanis. “While we respect the sensitivity and the serious nature of ED, we also took an upbeat tone in presenting medical facts and recommendations. By lightening the mood, we help the reader to relax with the subject matter and become open to the choices he has to improve the situation.”

At less than 75 pages, The Penis Diet is sufficiently informative, yet doesn’t lead the reader through a confusing maze of medical terminology. It offers clear and encouraging steps and considerations ranging from the causes of ED, cures and prevention, to “how to feed your penis,” exercises, myths and facts.

The Penis Diet is published by iUniverse(TM) and retails for $10.95. It’s available through major booksellers or by contacting 1-800-Authors, www.iuniverse.com.

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire - April 14, 2008) - Spring is in the air, and instead of cleaning the house, a new survey shows Canadians should be thinking about sprucing up their daily routine. The survey, conducted on behalf of the Canadian Diabetes Association, shows Canadians may not be as healthy as they think, and could be leaving themselves at risk for chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.

The survey reveals a gap between Canadians’ knowledge about healthy lifestyle behaviours and their willingness to adopt such behaviours. While Canadians recognize a healthy lifestyle as attributable to several factors - including physical exercise (97 per cent), healthy eating (95 per cent), and reducing stress (93 per cent) - they are not putting this knowledge into action. Disturbingly, fewer than four-in-ten Canadians (37 per cent) said the threat of a serious illness would motivate them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“The good news is that a majority of Canadians would be more motivated to make healthy changes by learning the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, rather than the risks of an unhealthy lifestyle,” says Sharon Zeiler, Senior Manager, Nutrition Initiatives and Strategies, Canadian Diabetes Association. “It’s time for Canadians to take a serious look at their habits and determine where they can improve; small changes to diet and exercise today can mean a healthier future for themselves and their families.”

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

According to the survey, Canadians understand the importance of eating well for overall health, with more than half (52 per cent) acknowledging that they should eat five to 10 servings of vegetables and fruits (as listed in Canada’s Food Guide) each day. However, only one-in-five (22 per cent) are actually getting this many servings.

Interestingly, more than a quarter of Canadians think their diet is as healthy as it needs to be. Of those who thought they could improve their diet, lack of willpower and lack of time were the top two reasons for not doing so.

MOVE IT OR LOSE IT

The survey reveals that Canadians believe it’s necessary to have an average of 20 minutes of exercise, at least five days per week, as opposed to the 30 to 60 minutes as recommended by Canada’s Physical Activity Guide. However, when asked about their personal fitness habits, less than one-third (27 per cent) of Canadians are meeting the goal of five days per week.

Although Canadians know what it takes to be fit and healthy, most are not willing to increase the amount of activity they are currently doing. Nearly one-in-five Canadians say they are already doing everything they can, and another 20 per cent claim they are too busy to get more exercise.

PREVENTING CHRONIC DISEASE

“Eating healthy and getting physical activity every day are an important part of staying healthy and preventing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes,” says Zeiler. “Canadians have some of the knowledge they need about healthy lifestyle behaviours - and now is the time to take action.”

Here are five easy tips that can help Canadians spring into action with a healthier lifestyle:

1. Eat Smart - Following Canada’s Food Guide for healthy eating is a sure-fire way to ensure you’re getting the necessary amount of vegetables, fruit, grains and other healthy foods that you need.

2. Get a Move On - Regular physical activity can help lower blood glucose levels, promote weight loss, reduce stress and enhance your overall level of fitness and health.

3. Stress Less - Try to avoid stressful situations as much as possible, and take time for activities that help you relax.

4. Ask for Help - Visit your doctor or dietitian and ask how you can improve your health through simple lifestyle modifications.

5. Go Beyond the Basics- Visit www.diabetes.ca to access the Canadian Diabetes Association’s new Beyond the Basics resource - a tool that can help you get on track to implement healthy lifestyle behaviours and prevent chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes.

ABOUT THE SURVEY

The national on-line survey was conducted by Environics research group, on behalf of the Canadian Diabetes Association. The survey was designed to explore current lifestyle behaviours, awareness of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, motivations and barriers to healthy lifestyles, as well as the impact of living with diabetes on perceptions of healthy lifestyle behaviours. Two thousand, three hundred and fifty-seven (2,357) adult Canadians (aged 18 and older) participated in the survey between January 21 and February 2, 2008. The survey was funded through an unrestricted educational grant provided by Novo Nordisk Canada.

LENOX, MA–(Marketwire - April 3, 2008) - That “diet” soda you are drinking could actually be “weight gain” soda. A new study in the Journal of Behavioral Neuroscience has conclusively shown that using artificial sweeteners does not prevent weight gain and actually induces a whole set of physiologic and hormonal responses that make you gain weight.

The study compared two different groups of rats; one group was given yogurt sweetened with sugar, the other, yogurt sweetened with saccharin. The researchers found the total amount of food eaten dramatically increased in the artificial sweetener group — meaning that the artificial sweetener stimulated their appetite. After 14 days the saccharin rats had gained weight, their body fat increased significantly, and their metabolism slowed down.

“The number of Americans who consume products that contain artificial sweeteners has grown from 70 million in 1987 to 160 million in 2000, and at the same time, the number of overweight Americans has increased from 30 percent to over 65 percent of the population,” said Mark Hyman, M.D. of UltraWellness. “These findings turn the conventional view that people will consume fewer calories by drinking artificially sweetened drinks, diet soda, or foods on its head.”

Any sweet taste will signal your body that calories are on the way and trigger hormonal and metabolic responses (i.e. hunger). When you consume non-nutritive or non-caloric sweeteners, like aspartame or saccharin, you are tricking your body and you will feel hungrier and eat more.

“Stop confusing your body. If you have a desire for something sweet, have a little sugar, but stay away from ‘fake’ foods,” said Hyman. “Avoid artificial sweeteners, including aspartame, acesulfame, sucralose, sugar alcohols such as malitol and xylitol (pretty much anything that ends in ‘ol’), as well as natural artificial sweeteners like stevia. Eating a whole-foods diet that has a low glycemic load and is rich in phytonutrients and indulging in a few real sweet treats once in a while is a better alternative.”

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) March 25, 2008 - Pump up the volume is one of the trends in breast implants and breast augmentation, according to South Florida-based plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Wigoda. In bar lingo, it’s, “give me a double,” in plastic surgery speak, it’s, “400 cc” - or better known as moving up breast sizes from an A or B cup to a full C or small D.

Breast Trends in South Florida

* More than 50 percent of patients are choosing silicone filled breast implants versus saline
* Women are going for the more natural look and feel of silicone breast implants
* Aesthetically, women have less rippling effect with the results of Dr. Wigoda’s silicone breast implants
* Bigger is better in South Florida where women choose a large C, small D cup versus the Big Apple where women are more conservatively choosing a small or medium B cup
* Biggest regret of patients: Should have gone bigger!
* First signs of divorce: Women get breast implants and/or they do not tell their husband the real cost; they spread it across multiple credit cards and cash

Plastic surgery expert and The Aesthetics Institute owner, Dr. Paul Wigoda reports an increase in demand of larger breast augmentations over the past two years. As the second most sought after surgical procedure in 2007, breast augmentation - and in larger sizes - are on the rise.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American’s spent $8.3 billion on surgical cosmetic procedures in 2007 - an 8 percent increase from 2006. People aged 35-50 had the most cosmetic procedures totaling 5.4 million or 46 percent of all surgical procedures.

“My patients are more often asking for an increase in bra sizes larger than one cup,” said Dr. Wigoda. “The recent trend in South Florida seems to be ‘bigger is better’. Two years ago [2006 my patients were asking for augmentation to a small or medium C cup and now most request a large C or small D cup.”

OTTAWA, ONTARIO–(Marketwire - March 20, 2008) - Health Canada is warning consumers not to use Libidus, an unauthorized product promoted on the web site of the manufacturer for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The product may pose serious health risks, as it was found to contain the undeclared prescription drug sildenafil, which should only be used under the supervision of a health care professional. Patients with pre-existing medical conditions, including those with heart problems, those taking heart medications, or those at risk for strokes, may be at an increased risk of serious health effects associated with the use of this product.

Use of sildenafil by patients with heart disease can result in serious cardiovascular side-effects such as sudden cardiac death, heart attack, stroke, low blood pressure, chest pain and abnormal heartbeat. Sildenafil should not be used by individuals taking any type of nitrate drug (e.g., nitroglycerin) due to the risk of developing potentially life-threatening low blood pressure.

Libidus is labelled as manufactured by Yurtland Natural Health, and distributed by NorthRegentRX, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Health Canada advises retailers to remove Libidus from their shelves, and consumers should return the product to the place of purchase. Health Canada is taking steps to confirm that the product has been removed from the Canadian market. Canadians who have used Libidus and are concerned about their health should consult with a health care professional.
