Here is an interview with the single largest user of collagen in the world. A day in the life of the King of Collagen, you might say. If you’ve thought about dermatological injections, you should definitely check it out…

Dr Frederic Brandt has several claims to fame. He is, for instance, the largest user of injectable collagen and Botox - in the world. ‘I just love fillers!’ he tells me. And how. When we meet at his New York clinic he wastes no time in revealing that he regularly injects himself.

‘The last session I did was six-and-a-half vials!’ His face is a smooth, jowl-free mask. Imagine a tub of frozen yoghurt, not a single line or wrinkle. He is cosmetic medicine’s Peter Pan.

In fact, in the 25 years since he began practising (Brandt set up shop in 1982 after completing both an oncology and dermatology residency at medical school in Philadelphia) he has personally tested every procedure and product he uses in his clinics - on himself.

All of which has made the 59-year-old Brandt surreally young-looking, and very rich. He is the Baron of Botox, the King of Collagen. His clients pay up to $7,000 for a full face of injections and come to him from all over the world, some as often as six times a year.

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — As 3D images illuminate the viewfinder, a joystick delicately maneuvers a pair of robotic arms. It may sound like a video game, but Dr. Nikhil Shah is actually performing cancer surgery.

In this case, the surgeon is removing a man’s prostate gland. Robotic surgery is a growing trend in treating prostate cancer. The number of cases have increased sevenfold in the past four years, from 10,000 in 2004 to a projected 70,000 in 2008, according to Intuitive Surgical Inc., the creators of the robotic device. The advantages of robotics — fewer side effects and quicker recovery times in many patients — have led to increased use for other surgeries, including hysterectomy, kidney cancer and some heart procedures.  NEW YORK) — A Filipino teenager who came to New York so doctors could perform surgery to untwist her severely clubbed feet took her first unaided steps Wednesday in pink-and-white sneakers — the first shoes she’s ever worn.

“I’m very happy,” Jingle Luis said with a smile. “It was exciting.”

The 15-year-old girl arrived at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx in May with her mother for surgery and follow-up treatment.

She had never been able to walk on her own because she was born with feet so clubbed they twisted backward and upside down, forcing her to hobble on the tops of her feet with the help of crutches. Read more…

Lawmakers and physicians’ groups want increased oversight of doctors performing cosmetic procedures in outpatient facilities.

SACRAMENTO — – Six months after the mother of Kanye West died following liposuction and breast implant surgery, the reverberations of the tragedy continue to be felt. Now lawmakers and physicians are urging greater protections for patients undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Across the country, such surgeries are increasingly done outside hospital settings in outpatient clinics, where a doctor can avoid the rigorous review that, say, a heart surgeon would face at a traditional hospital. Read more…

MIAMI - A Vietnamese girl is finally free of a disfiguring 16-pound (7-kilogram) facial tumor, after a surgery that lasted at least 12 hours in Miami.

The Schwannoma tumor had consumed the lower half of 15-year-old Lai Thi Dao’s face. It had been growing since she was 3 and eventually accounted for roughly one-third of her body weight. Read more…

MSNBC has an interesting look - literally - at some celebs who have aged gracefully, a few who have had a little bit of surgery, and others who overdid it, to put it mildly.

Score one for going au naturel.

(PRWEB) September 26, 2007 — Prospective patients can actually view cosmetic surgeries in their entirety online. This website also includes voice-over narration and even post-operative photographs, according to Dr. Edward Domanskis, the innovative plastic surgeon who has introduced this free service.

Viewable surgeries at www.seesurgery.com include liposuction, breast enlargement, blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, and abdominoplasty(tummy tuck), which are the five most common cosmetic procedures that patients have done.

“I have patients who really wanted to see how these surgeries were performed, and how they looked after them,” said Dr. Domanskis, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery(Plastic)WOC at the University of California(Irvine).

“This free service makes it now possible,” continued Dr. Domanskis, Orange County Physician of Excellence in Plastic Surgery for the past several years. Not only are the surgeries edited and professionally narrated, but also, the patients are shown immediately after and then, during their recovery, and up to two and one half years after their procedures.

Michelle Miller at first was skittish about watching the tummy tuck surgery that she was considering, but found it extremely enlightening. “It helped me prepare for my surgery and showed me how I would look after it.” “I was much reassured by what I saw and it proved invaluable to me!”

There are presently ten surgeries ranging from breast enlargement to facelift available for viewing on www.seesurgery.com. Another twenty have been taped and will be periodically added to the site.

Cosmetic procedures have doubled in the past five years to 11.5milion according to the statistics of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Edward Jonas Domanskis is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is a noted lecturer and speaker on the subject of cosmetic surgery.
