One of the most successful female groups of all time, the Bangles make a triumphant return to their hometown of Los Angeles with their first-ever concert DVD, available August 14 on Shout! Factory.
Return To Bangleonia was recorded in September 2000 at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles with the original lineup of Susanna Hoffs (Vocals/Guitar), Debbi Peterson (Vocals/Drums), Vicki Peterson (Vocals/Lead Guitar), and Michael Steele (Vocals/Bass). The DVD includes 18 songs as well as extras and a commentary track by the band.
The queens of power pop pull out all of their hits on Return To Bangleonia, from number one singles “Walk Like An Egyptian” and “Eternal Flame” to early fan favorites like “Hero Takes A Fall.” “Get The Girl,” from the film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is also included. Extras include acoustic performances of “Ride The Ride” and “Manic Monday,” which was written by Prince (writing under the pseudonym Christopher at the time), as well as a candid interview with the band about their storied history and a photo gallery with rare and never-before-seen photos.
The Bangles first hit the radar as a fixture on the LA music scene in 1981. They went on to trade their garage band roots for a distinctive pop sound featuring gorgeous harmonies that would make them one of the most successful bands of the 1980s.
The Bangles released their debut album All Over The Place on Columbia in 1984. The band’s sophomore album, the multi-platinum A Different Light (1986), contained the hit singles “Manic Monday”, “Walk Like an Egyptian” and “Walking Down Your Street.” 1988’s Everything delivered the hits “In Your Room” and “Be With You,” and the international #1 single “Eternal Flame.” The band broke up in 1989 and each of the band members went on to participate in various other projects, which only contributed to their creative growth. In 2003 they reunited and released Doll Revolution. Shout! Factory released the Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet ‘60s salute Under the Covers Vol. 1 in 2006. On August 28, 2007, Concord Jazz will release Anthem, the highly anticipated sophomore album from Grammy-nominated trumpeter Christian Scott. Anthem is a powerful collection of 12 tracks teeming indie-rock, neo-soul, hip-hop and jazz and features an appearance by Brother J of X-Clan on the finale track “Anthem (Postdiluvial Adaptation)”. The tracks on the album give us a taste of Christian’s hometown, New Orleans, and the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Katrina, however it also reflects the many changes Scott has gone through since releasing his debut album in 2006. “My life changed completely. So, the compositions on Anthem aren’t just about one thing” he says. “There’s something here for everybody so that everyone can hear their own personal anthems.”
Anthem follows Christian’s critically-acclaimed debut album Rewind That. Released on March 28, 2006, Rewind That received rave reviews from the press. Billboard Magazine named him one of the “Top Ten to Watch in 2006.” The LA Daily News raved, “The major-label debut from this jazz trumpeter has been generating no small amount of hype – and in this case, the accolades are deserved. Rewind That is the real deal.” Journalists weren’t the only people praising Christian. In an interview with Downbeat Magazine Chris Botti said, “Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of CDs by new trumpeters. The only one I like is Christian’s. He’s the new voice in jazz trumpet. I love his point of view. He doesn’t sound like any other young trumpet player.” The Recording Academy took notice and nominated Christian for his first Grammy Award.
The accolades caught the eye of quite a few industry heavyweights. He recently went into the studio with Prince to record a few songs for Prince’s new album and also shared the stage with him at Prince’s venue in Las Vegas, 3121 in the Rio Hotel. Christian recently wrapped a session with Randy Jackson for Randy’s new album coming this fall and performed with Mos Def at his sold out show at New York’s Highline Ballroom. Christian is also taking his talents to the big screen. He was asked to appear and perform in the new Steven Soderbergh film, “Leatherheads” starring George Clooney and Renee Zellweger.

It had to happen:

The arena trek will begin in early October.
Roth, who split from the rock group in the mid-1980s in hopes of solo stardom, will reunite with co-founders Eddie Van Halen on guitar and brother Alex Van Halen on drums. Eddie’s teenage son Wolfgang will sub for Michael Anthony on bass.
