Born and raised in New York City, JES realized at an early age that singing was her passion. She spent years perfecting her truly unique vocal style, working in various studios and professional situations. While working in a Los Angeles studio, JES met Mike Olson and the two formed Guardians of Earth. The group gained attention on the very popular MP3.com with songs like “Starchildren” and “One Moon Circling”. “Starchildren,’ would go on to be included on Paul Van Dyks, the Politics of Dancing series. Through the success of that cd, JES began collaborating with more DJ’s like D:fuse and Deepsky, producing tracks like “Living The Dream” and “Talk Like A Stranger” along with many others. Ultimately, this lead to the collaboration with Gabriel & Dresden to form Motorcycle, producing the Billboard #1 Dance Hit “As The Rush Comes”.
It wasn’t long before she caught the attention of the superstar global DJ and producer Tiesto. JES’s songs have been included on Tiesto’s In Search Of Sunrise, 4, 5, and 6 albums. JES also penned the hit “Everything” with Tiesto for the Grammy nominated Elements Of Life album. Since signing with Tiesto’s label, Black Hole Recordings, JES completed her debut solo album. In 2007, Disconnect was released and can be described as an epic trance journey, incorporating elements of rock, and showcasing her utterly unique style of Roctronica. The first single “Ghost” hit radio worldwide, and has been licensed to over twenty popular Dance compilations. Watch for the current single “Heaven”, along with its music video shot entirely in NYC.
To promote her solo release, JES joined Tiesto, performing her Disconnect album live for Arena crowds on the massive 2007 Elements of Life World Tour. She was also named 2007 Diva of the year by the readers of the popular dance website, www.divadivodance.com.
Next up for JES is the release of Into The Dawn, the hits disconnected, a flip side to her debut album. Packed with chill-out remixes from Disconnect and a few entirely new tracks, this album is sure to catch the attention of an even broader audience for this Roctronica diva.
Rhino Entertainment will release the Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies DVD on January 29, 2008.
Performing live in his old Brooklyn stomping grounds, Barry Manilow’s latest DVD is the best sort of homecoming. A wonderfully entertaining television special, Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies was filmed in September 2007 at the old Navy Yard in Brooklyn, “right down the block from where I grew up in Williamsburg,” as Manilow explains onstage. The special premiered on PBS stations across the nation in early December, and will now be made available on DVD.
Rhino, in association with Stiletto Television, captures the artist’s triumphant return to his old neighborhood where he sings his biggest hits — and some great covers — from the decade that made him famous. The two-DVD set includes the television special in 5.1 Surround Sound on the first disc, plus a bonus disc featuring an unaired mini-concert of alternate performances, along with behind-the-scenes footage. Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies will be available in stores and at www.rhino.com January 29. An excellent companion to Manilow’s latest smash album, The Greatest Songs of the Seventies -which debuted in the Top 5 — this special finds Manilow focusing on the music of the decade when he became one of music’s biggest stars.

Music performers could see a big boost to their lifetime earnings under planned changes to music rights proposed by the European Commission.
The Commission wants to extend the copyright period for music performers from 50 years to 95 years.
British stars like Cliff Richard and Roger Daltrey have been pushing for such a move, but the UK government has resisted changing the rules.
The Commission says it will also benefit less well known musicians.
Musician’s money
The European Union’s internal market commissioner Charlie McCreevy said that “copyright protection for Europe’s performers represents a moral right to control the use of their work and earn a living from their performances”.
“It is the performer who gives life to the composition and while most of us have no idea who wrote our favourite song, we can usually name the performer,” he said.
The copyright for a song or piece of music, and the money that earns, is split into two parts.
Performance and sound recording rights usually go to the singer, band, musicians and technicians.
Publishing rights, which cover the lyrics and sheet music will either be owned by the writer, or a music label.
They last for the lifetime of the writer plus 70 years.
‘No pensions’
Thursday’s proposal was highly significant for the musicians and technicians “who only receive a small share of performance income from the exploitation of recordings for a limited period of time, said Lee Gage of lawyers Harbottle & Lewis.
He added that “session performers and other non-featured musicians” would especially benefit from the changes.
The Who singer Roger Daltrey, and Sir Cliff Richard are among the artists who have spoken out against the UK government’s decision not to extend music copyright laws.
Mr Daltrey said thousands of artists had “no pensions and rely on royalties”.
