Fresh on the heels of the Bun B-assisted lead single “Where’s Da G’s,” the third full-length from English MC Dizzee Rascal has finally taken its stateside bow. Released on April 29th via Definitive Jux, Maths + English, finds the UK phenom at the top of his game. Waving the Union Jack and Stars and Bars with equal pride, Dizzee invited guests from both sides of the pond to add their talents to his genre-defying concoction of crunk, drum and bass, classic old school rap and grime. In addition to the aforementioned UGK cameo, British hitmakers, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and Lily Allen also lend their vocals to the proceedings. The freshly-released album includes several bonus tracks (both digitally and physically) not originally available on the UK version, in addition to tracks exclusive to iTunes, eMusic, and Amazon’s digital store.

Later this month, Dizzee embarks on a North American tour with labelmate El-P (whose recently-launched blog, Bastards Delight, is definitely worth checking out). Chicago spitsmiths Kidz in the Hall will join the Def Jux duo for dates in New York and Philly, while LA-based Busdriver will tag along through the Minneapolis date. And, of course, last but not least, still rolling on the wild success of None Shall Pass, Def Jux mainstay Aesop Rock will take the stage at Webster Hall in NYC and at the 1015 in San Francisco.

What the Press is Saying:

Dizzee’s despairing wail, focused anger, and cutting sonics places him on the front lines in the battle against a stultifying Britain, just as Pete Townshend, Johnny Rotten, and Morrissey have been in the past.  - Pitchfork Media

Dizzee Rascal delivered forty minutes of blistering, grimy hip-hop. The set drew heavily from his latest, Maths + English (finally seeing a physical U.S. release April 29 after being out in the U.K. for nearly a year) – Rollingstone Magazine (on 2008 SXSW performance)

Fans were treated to a talented MC with a crew who likes shout-outs and shoes. His set drew as much from excellent early material as it did from Maths + English, and the high-BPM beats kept the show flowing and energetic. – Pitchfork Media (on 2008 SXSW performance)

As one of the 20th century’s most iconic entertainers, Francis Albert Sinatra made an indelible mark on the world. In the 10 years since his passing, Sinatra’s legacy not only endures but also continues to grow in stature. As the first initiative under the newly established Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE), a partnership between the Sinatra Family and Warner Music Group, FSE has partnered with Reprise, Warner Home Video, MGM Home Entertainment, Turner Classic Movies, and the United States Postal Service to commemorate the Chairman of the Board, whose music and movies have an everlasting impact on popular culture. The month-long celebration will include the release of all-new CD and DVD collections, a television film festival and specials and a commemorative stamp.

On May 13, Reprise will release “NOTHING BUT THE BEST,” a single-disc collection from Sinatra’s Reprise Years that features 22 classic cuts remixed and remastered from the original master tapes, plus a previously unreleased recording of “Body And Soul” featuring a new arrangement. The compilation will be available in physical and digital formats, online at www.franksinatra.com, and in more than 7,000 Post Offices across the country. For a limited time, each CD will contain a collectible, commemorative Sinatra stamp with official USPS first-day issue cancellation. The stamp was unveiled in December 2007 by the U.S. Postal Service and will go on sale May 13.

With the release of Shannon Noll’s third album, Turn It Up, the charismatic singer, who in a few short years has become one of Australia’s most successful, iconic and loved performers is set to turn it up in every way…at every level.

“It’s a great title for many reasons,” says Shannon. “But for me it means I’m turning up the heat on my career”. After two multi platinum selling albums, eleven consecutive top ten singles, 4 ARIA nominations, five ARIA #1 Chart Awards and three consecutive MTV VMAs for Best Male Artist, Shannon’s career is already red hot. But Shannon Noll is not an artist ever content to rest on his laurels, and the twelve outstanding tracks on Turn It Up, nine of which Shannon co wrote, are proof that Shannon has taken his career to a whole new level.

“I really had the chance to be involved from the beginning with this album. I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot and I was able to put all that experience in,” says Shannon.

Prior to recording the album, Shannon spent an intense 8 week writing session in Australia, Los Angeles, Nashville and New York working with some of the industry’s top songwriters. It was a prolific and productive time for Shannon and out of the 40 songs that emerged; twelve were selected for the album.

Recorded earlier this year in Los Angeles and produced by multi-platinum, Grammy nominated producer Luke Ebbin (renowned for his work with Bon Jovi), the two decided the best way to capture Shannon’s phenomenal performing and singing talents was to take a fresh approach in the studio.

“We wanted to make this album 100% live,” says Shannon. “We didn’t want any programming this time. I would be in the studio when all the instruments and additional vocals were done live, so it was a much more natural and organic experience in the studio.”

The result is Shannon’s most dynamic album ever. From the chart topping first hit, Loud, to anthemic rockers like Way Out to heartfelt emotion in Breakdown and In Pieces to unabashed sentiments in soul stirring ballads like Sorry Is Just Too Late and Is You, every song is a standout showcase for Shannon’s unparalleled vocal abilities.

But it’s not just his singing. Turn It Up, really shows Shannon’s growth as a songwriter and true artist.

Shannon was particularly thrilled to work with one of rock music’s greatest talents, Richie Sambora. The two wrote the blistering power ballad, Sorry Is Just Too Late along with producer Luke Ebbin. Richie also played guitar on the track which is bound to become an instant rock classic. The rock legend has nothing but praise for Shannon. “There are very few current artists that embody the great classic vocalists, but have a contemporary flair,” says Richie. “Shannon is that artist.”

“Working with Richie was amazing, “says Shannon. “He had no preconceived ideas of where I came from. He just treated me and respected me as an equal.” On Everybody Needs A Little Help Shannon’s ability to inject pure and honest emotion will again stir hearts and souls. “I wanted to keep the impact going after Lift,” says Shannon. “With Everybody Needs A Little Help, I wanted to get that edge back in there, to say no matter what you’re going through, it’s OK. You don’t have to do it alone.”

Won’t Let You Go is also another song straight from the heart. “That song is dedicated to my wife,” says Shannon. “I spend a long time away from my family, but I know she is always there for me, and if she ever wanted me to come home from anywhere I would come straight back.”

Way Out is a track that has instant crowd pleasing appeal. “In a way it’s about the big questions we ask in life,” says Shannon. “I call it a life song, not a love song.”

“Like my live show, I really feel this album has it all, from the rockers to the more intimate songs…the whole range is there,” says Shannon. “I’m driven by my effect on people and whatever I put on the album has to be honest.”

Since his indelible impact on the Australian public in 2004 with the release of his debut album, Shannon now finds himself in the best place he’s ever been with new Australian and US management. “It’s really taken a lot of pressure off me. I now find myself in a nurturing arena where I don’t have to worry,” he says. “I can just concentrate on the singing.”

While it’s inevitable a talent like Shannon is bound to take the next step onto the world stage, he remains firmly committed to his Australian fans. “Australia is the number one market for me,” says Shannon. “I’m so lucky the public has given me success and a career and that will always be first and foremost to me.”

Turn It Up is sure to crank up the volume on Shannon’s career. Not only does it reflect Shannon’s continuing evolution as an artist, a songwriter and a supreme vocalist, it’s bound to take its place as one of the finest Australian albums in recent times.

GO AHEAD AND TURN IT UP!!

Rhino Entertainment presents the Collector’s Edition release of Love’s Forever Changes CD available on April 22nd!

Rightfully regarded as the L.A.-based psychedelic folk-rock pioneers’ finest achievement, Love’s FOREVER CHANGES is an indispensable masterpiece. Often compared to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Pet Sounds, the third and final album by the original Love lineup remains a timeless musical experience four decades after its Elektra release.

Produced by band cofounder Arthur Lee and The Doors’ engineer/producer Bruce Botnick, the visionary album weaves a rich tapestry of sound as Lee’s quavering voice delivers lyrics that are both enigmatic and poetic as he is backed by the band’s gorgeous melodies and evocative orchestral arrangements.

Rhino celebrates the 40th anniversary of this truly essential album with a Collector’s Edition of FOREVER CHANGES that contains the original 11 songs along with an alternate mix of the album comprised almost entirely of unreleased tracks. The bonus material also includes a trove of unreleased gems culled from the album’s recording sessions. The two-disc set will be available April 22 in stores and at www.rhino.com for a suggested price of $24.98.

Recorded during the Summer of Love in Hollywood, CA, the album is the group’s most fully realized studio effort, featuring Lee (vocals, guitar), John Echols (lead guitar), Bryan MacLean (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ken Forssi (bass) and Michael Stuart (drums, percussion). The original album includes the classic “Andmoreagain,” plus the Lee-penned tracks “Red Telephone,” “A House Is Not A Motel” and “Live And Let Live,” as well as “Alone Again Or” and “Old Man” written by MacLean.

Disc 2 contains an unreleased alternate mix of all but one of the original tracks. (The alternate mix of the album closer, “You Set The Scene,” first appeared on Rhino’s 2001 reissue of the album.) The disc’s ten bonus songs feature six unreleased tracks including an original mix for the album outtake “Wonder People (I Do Wonder),” an alternate electric backing track for “Andmoreagain,” tracking session highlights for “The Red Telephone” and an outtake of “Wooly Bully.” The previously released bonus cuts include “Your Mind And We Belong Together,” the b-side “Laughing Stock” and a demo version of “Hummingbirds,” a song that would later become “The Good Humor Man He Sees Everything Like This.”

FOREVER CHANGES was recently inducted into the 2008 Grammy Hall of Fame.

A tribute concert honoring Arthur Lee and the 40th anniversary of FOREVER CHANGES is scheduled for June 7th at the Malibu Performing Arts Center (MPAC).
