SoundMojo’s sister site WatchMojo had a chance to interview Indie rock’s nicest band, The Weakerthans:
Apparently the wheels are in motion for Chinese Democracy to be released exclusively at one retail location. At this point does anybody care anymore? I guess at least it means it must be coming out soon? Read more from Reuters:
The June leak of nine allegedly “mastered, finished” tracks from Guns N’ Roses’ long-delayed “Chinese Democracy” spurred a renewed round of speculation about whether the Axl Rose-led band will finally release the 14-years-in-the-making album.
But some concrete signs are finally emerging that the album’s release could be imminent. That’s because, according to sources, negotiations are under way for “Chinese Democracy” to come out as an exclusive at one of the big-box retailers — either Wal-Mart or Best Buy.
Negotiations are also ongoing for conventional record company distribution, another source said.
Guns N’ Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff’s Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles’ “Long Road Out of Eden” through Wal-Mart, much to the chagrin of other merchants.
It’s unclear who initiated the Guns N’ Roses exclusive negotiations — Front Line or Interscope, the band’s label.
Representatives at Front Line and Interscope with knowledge of the situation couldn’t be reached for comment. A Wal-Mart representative said the chain couldn’t confirm this fall’s exclusive album offerings. Best Buy representatives couldn’t be reached for comment.
All these aging classic rockers seem to be getting scammed by gold diggers? Phil Collins has to pay his 3rd wife a reported 46.68 million dollars, just beating McCartney’s ex-wife who recently was awarded 45.37 million. It’s also estimated that he’s lost over a third or his net worth to his ex-wives… although he may deserve some of the financial punishment after allegedly ending things with his second wife via Fax… Not cool Phil.

Four time Grammy nominee Michael Feinstein returns with The Sinatra Project, his first CD release since 2005’s Hopeless Romantics, in stores September 2nd! Feinstein will also be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of his famed club in New York City, Feinsteins’s At The Regency, with a week long Sinatra themed celebration during release week.
Four time Grammy nominee, singer/pianist Michael Feinstein is poised to release his 24th album, The Sinatra Project, through Concord records September 2, 2008. The new album is a tribute to “The Chairman of the Board” himself, Frank Sinatra and is Feinstein’s first recorded tribute to another performer. With the help of producer-arranger Bill Elliott, Feinstein realized they wanted to record an album of great romantic songs that had been sung by “Ol’ Blue Eyes”.
“For years I’ve had the desire to celebrate Sinatra’s musical sensibilities, but I have no desire to copy the classic songs that he rendered better than anyone else. I wanted to create an album that would explore his style of singing and his style of music” comments Feinstein.
To that end, the dynamic duo decided to record the album as they would have fifty years ago, in the famous last surviving recording studio from the days of stereo, Capital Studio A in Hollywood.
“We set up the recording sessions the way they were done back in the day, with the entire band in one room, drums next to the trumpets and saxes, using only a handful of microphones to capture the warmth and depth of the music” added Elliott.
The album is comprised of classics such as “Fools Rush In,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” “At Last Love,” “Exactly Like you,” and many more. Feinstein not only pays homage to Sinatra, but to many of his contemporaries, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat “King” Cole, Rosemary Clooney and other great singers of the post-war, pre-rock years. They even called upon Sinatra’s favorite songwriting Alan and Marilyn Bergman to consult as Feinstein recorded “The Same, Hello, the Same Goodbye” originally written for Sinatra.
Dubbed “Ambassador of the Great American Songbook”, Feinstein has played all around the world from Buckingham Palace to the White House. He will kick off the release of his new album with 6 special performances at his notable venue Feinstein’s at Loews Regency in New York City, September 2nd - September 6th, 2008.

30 seconds… 30 million… seems like an appropriate number! Virgin records are not happy with Jared Leto and his band saying they failed to deliver on their agreed upon contract of 3 albums. Read more from CNN:
Hardcore fans of 30 Seconds to Mars aren’t the only ones who want more of the band’s music. Virgin Records has sued the group for $30 million, saying it has failed to deliver.
Virgin Records sued the band and front man Jared Leto in Los Angeles on Friday, claiming they refused to deliver three albums as required by its contract.
The band’s last album, “A Beautiful Lie,” was released in 2005.
A publicist for Leto, an actor who starred in the film “Requiem for a Dream” and the TV show “My So-Called Life,” did not return a message Friday.
According to the lawsuit, the band “repudiated” a 1999 contract in July.
Despite the absence of a new album, the band’s hit “From Yesterday” was deemed one of 2007’s Top 10 “Hot Modern Rock Songs” by Billboard magazine.
Here it is… and it sounds pretty damn good! Great vocals from Liam, can’t wait to hear more off this album:
