Hot off the heels of an explosive MTV VMA performance, international superstar P!nk  is gearing up to release her fifth studio album on October 28th. Funhouse will include the Max Martin (Kelly Clarkson, NSYNC) produced “So What” — an instant radio smash that Entertainment Weekly deemed “a raspy rebel yell of an anthem that boasts a mean hook.” “So What” is currently the # 1 song on iTunes

The colorfully bold video for the single was directed by David Meyers (Britney Spears, Missy Elliott) and features plenty of whacky stunts like P!nk driving down Sunset Blvd on a lawnmower and chopping down a tree in her front yard.

South Central will have us raving all year long!” - Dazed and Confused

…when it goes all old-skool electro it’s rather pleasant - but the overall effect is like being forced screaming into the ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ video and being told you can’t leave until your ears bleed. And believe us, they will.” - NME

This has balls. It’s punk but it’s electro, it hurts your ears but it’s melodic, it’s…it’s…the future I guess, and I like it. This shows a few electro cross-over bands that are out there on our Artrocker radar how it’s really done.” - Artrocker

BRIGHTON, UK – . If you’ve been active in the international music blogging community or read top UK music publications there’s a good chance you are already aware of the noise South Central has been making. It seems from their inception South Central have always inhabited the hostile worlds of indie and dance simultaneously, unlike the multitudes of cross-over bands who have to find their feet in one genre and only later mutate to include both Now it’s time to sick The Owl of Minerva on ya.

The Owl of Minerva is a collection of South Central’s finest work of the last two years; music that’s never been available on CD or mp3. This collection not only acts as a must-have for fans and DJs, but also bringing the South Central story right up to the present and paving the way for the South Central debut album in 2009. Taking its title from nineteenth century philosopher Hegel’s assertion that “any historical condition can only be understood just as it passes away,” it is perhaps no coincidence then that this release also heralds the historic formation of South Central’s own imprint, Egregore Music.

Shrouded in mystery (and indeed their trademark black hoods) the enigma that is South Central manifests itself as both a 2-man DJ/Production duo and as a 5-piece live band; the former spectacularly dissolves the boundaries of what DJing and live music are. The latter is the cowled synthesis of guitars and technology that combines the spirit and song of indie rock with the pounding electronics of big-room techno. But there’s also an unpredictable side to the live show. The band does a killer rendition of Josh Wink’s “Higher State Of Consciousness” (available on the CD) and recently performed a live cover of Daft Punk’s “Da Funk” in Paris of all places! The live show is so good that Does It Offend You, Yeah? tapped South Central as the main support act  for it’s October UK tour. No surprise then that both the indie kids and the danceheads have signed up for more.

To date, South Central has remixed artists including Klaxons, Van She, The Whip, Metronomy, Shy Child, Maccabees and Shitdisco, among many others. South Central’s bootleg of Klaxon’s “The Bouncer” was such an underground success that even UK radio stalwarts XFM’s John Kennedy and Radio 1’s Pete Tong picked up on it. And for your viewing pleasure we offer a link into South Central’s $36 dollar budget video for it’s debut single “Nothing Can Go Wrong” (click here to watch), which received constant rotation from MTV UK, in addition to traditional support from Annie Mac and Steve Lamacq on Radio 1.

The Owl Of Minerva is released December 9 on Egregore Music.

On August 19 Lost Highway will release Pass It Around, the new album from Donavon Frankenreiter. Pass It Around boasts 10 new songs from the musician/pro-surfer, and also features some special guests and a new approach for Frankenreiter.

On his 2006 self-produced Lost Highway debut, Move By Yourself Frankenreiter set out on his own and began to find his musical identity as an artist as he moved away from the acoustic stylings of his 2004 self-titled debut by plugging in and opening up. Pass It Around shows that identity fully realized. The songs incorporate some of the acoustic and electric elements of his past recordings but infuse them with the musical wisdom he has gained along the way, plus the production of two-time Grammy Award-winner Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, Frank Zappa).

Frankenreiter even approached the songwriting process in a new way by co-writing for the first time. Donavon collaborated with the likes of Mike Daly (Whiskeytown), Grant Lee Phillips, Steve McQuien (Unamerican) and Thad Cockrell, to name a few.

The result is an album filled with soulful melodies, uplifting grooves and some lessons for life. From the punchy mariachi horns of “Your Heart” to the pop sensibilities of “Life, Love & Laughter” to the laid-back funk of “Hit The Ground Running” and “Too Much Water,” Pass It Around is a testament to Frankenreiter’s continuing evolution as an artist.

Pass It Around features Donavon’s band; Matt Grundy - bass, Eric Brigmond - keys and Craig Barnette – drums, along with special guests Ben Harper (on title track), G. Love (on “Sing A Song”) and Grant Lee Phillips, who co-wrote and performs on “Mansions In The Sand.”

In advance of Fist of God, the follow-up to 2006’s landmark The Looks, Toronto dancefloor juggernaut MSTRKRFT is set to release a Maxi Single of club-banging blog fave, and F’N MTV theme song, “Bounce.” The eight-track offering, due via Dim Mak Records on October 7th, features the original N.O.R.E. and Isis of Thunderheist-assisted track, released in April, “Vuvuvu,” and a plethora of remixes from rising stars in the dance community. For the uninitiated, MSTRKRFT is the production/DJ team of Toronto musician Jesse F. Keller and studio wizard Al-P. Their 2006 smash The Looks blurred boundaries between punk, house, hip-hop, grime, electro, and all kinds of electronic experimentation. Since forming, the team of Keller and Al-P have remixed a veritable who’s who of musical trendsetters – John Legend and Andre 3000, The Gossip, Justice, Usher, Wolfmother, The Crystal Method, Chromeo, Armand Van Helden, Kylie Minogue, Annie, Bloc Party, and Metric. The Bounce maxi single finds a few of MSTRKRFT’s friends returning the favor, with “Bounce” remixes from the likes of French up-and-comers High Powered Boys, MK labelmates Bloody Beetroots, and Vancouver-based rising star Felix Cartal, whose contribution to the release was premiered this morning on RCRDLBL and can be downloaded below.
