Formed after the tragic death of legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, the recently reunited Arc Angels are set to perform at New York City’s Fillmore Theater at Irving Plaza on Friday, May 8th.

After much speculation in the fan and music communities, the Arc Angels have announced today an official reunion that will include new music and new touring ventures, along with their first major concert as part of Austin’s South By Southwest Festival on Friday, March 20th at 8pm at Auditorium Shores. The eagerly anticipated reunion features original band members Charlie Sexton, Doyle Bramhall II and Chris Layton performing together again. After more than a decade apart, the band has entered the studio to record new music, is slated to open for Eric Clapton on his Spring UK tour, and will release a Live CD/DVD with a U.S. summer tour to follow. Further album and DVD details will be announced shortly.

Almost an institution on the Austin music scene, adoring fans have always considered the Arc Angels to be the stuff of legends – great musical talents working together through a time of crisis to create a tremendous band with a tremendous story. Founded at the Austin Rehearsal Center (ARC), whose initials gave them their name, four amazing artists united after the death of their friend and fellow musician Stevie Ray Vaughan. The band was intended to be a musical outlet and inspiration – and while it was exactly that, it also became something much bigger.

The band’s 1992 debut album release, Arc Angels, on Geffen Records met with much critical acclaim and managed to break onto the Billboard Top 200 chart. The sound was unique - raw and intense rock and roll steeped in the roots of Texas blues, but still radio-friendly and widely appealing. The group toured heavily over the next three years and did two much-discussed appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” But at the peak of that success, the band abruptly fell apart in 1994, concluding their run with a series of farewell concerts at Austin’s Backyard outdoor venue.

They each followed their individual paths from there. Bramhall created several solo projects and went on to tour with Roger Waters and Eric Clapton. Sexton made two critically acclaimed solo albums and spent several years touring with Bob Dylan. Meanwhile, Layton recorded three albums with the Texas soul quintet Storyville and has backed such artists as Buddy Guy, John Mayer and most recently Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Together again almost seven years after headlining the Austin City Limits Festival, The Arc Angels upcoming shows are listed below.

April 20, 2009 — Burbank, CA — Reprise Records’ Grammy®Award winning rock band Green Day have announced that they will hit the road for their first proper tour of the United States and Canada in more than three years beginning July 3rd in Seattle, WA. The first leg of the tour will cross North America through the summer and finish up with two shows in Los Angeles on August 26th.

Green Day are touring in support of their long-awaited eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown, which will be released globally by Reprise Records on Friday, May 15th, 2009. Singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool have been at work writing, arranging, and recording 21st Century Breakdown since early 2006 with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). The first single, “Know Your Enemy” was released to radio and digital retailers on April 16th.

Green Day recently performed 21st Century Breakdown in its entirety during a series of warm-up club shows for hometown fans in the Bay Area. In its review of a show at Oakland’s Fox Theater, Rolling Stone commented that the band, augmented by guitarists Jason White and Jeff Matika, and keyboardist Jason Freese, had the “Quadrophenia-like hang of 21st Century Breakdown’s classic rock melodies and lifetime-punk drive down solid” and that the album is “rock opera in which the rock always comes first.” “21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s best album,” the reviewer concluded, “and at the Fox, they proved that the rock opera can be as punk as a Clash 45.”

21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s first studio album since 2004’s two-time Grammy Award-winning punk-rock opera American Idiot, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, spawned five hit singles, and went on to sell more than 12 million copies worldwide.
