With CRASH LOVE, the forthcoming album from AFI, due out in just twenty days and “Medicate” climbing the radio charts, the band is giving fans a preview of another track off the new record as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the recording process. For the song “I Am Trying Very Hard To Be Here” AFI enlisted the help of their fans for the track’s gang vocals. Staying true to form AFI went to their fans, the backbone of the band, and asked them to submit short videos about themselves for a chance to win a trip to Los Angeles and to sing on one of the songs from CRASH LOVE. Fans heard the call, and they answered and thus the Begin Transmission series was born. Watch as AFI welcomes six fans into the studio to record “I Am Trying Very Hard To Be Here” from CRASH LOVE, in stores September 29.
AFI has also just launched their newly redesigned website, www.AFireInside.net, with gold artwork reflecting the forthcoming release. Fans can now connect with the band via Twitter from the site as well as get the latest news, photos, video, tour dates and more. “Here,” a new original song by legendary singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, will officially debut on July 24, 2009 with the release of the motion picture Shrink, starring Academy Award® winning actor Kevin Spacey. As dramatic punctuation, “Here” runs over the end title credits, beginning when the screen goes dark at the narrative’s conclusion. Following limited release in select theatres in New York and Los Angeles, Shrink—from Roadside Attractions— opened in Limited release in NY and Los Angeles on July 24, 2009 and will expand to 12 major cities on July 31st, 2009.
Jackson Browne is regularly cited as contemporary music’s quintessential confessional singer-songwriter, making his contribution to Shrink an ideal fit. Talking about “Here,” Browne said, “The song is really about trying to be here in the present, even if you don’t really care for the present—even if you’re kind of locked up in the past.”
Directed by Jonas Pate (Deceiver) and written by Thomas Moffett, the film centers on Spacey as pot-smoking “shrink-to-the-stars” Henry Carter, the connecting point between what Variety called, “an impressive cast playing an asylum’s worth of disturbed Hollywood types.” Personal tragedy and a challenging pro bono case has Carter spinning off-balance and losing control, both in his own life and in relation to his A-list clientele.
Shrink premiered in January 2009 at Sundance; the festival’s write-up said, “Performed by a well-matched cast at the top of their form, the result is both satisfying and exhilarating. Watching Shrink makes us feel like voyeurs looking through a window into the lives of people who look great, feel worse, and end up behaving badly.” In addition to Spacey, the cast features Saffron Burrows, Jack Huston, Robert Loggia, Keke Palmer and Dallas Roberts, among others.
Jackson Browne signed on to compose the closing song for Shrink after seeing a cut of the film following its Sundance premiere. Written on the road, “Here” was recorded in early 2009 during a break from Browne’s world tour in support of his 2008 album Time The Conqueror. The album is out on the artist’s own independent label Inside Recordings, and was produced by Browne and Paul Dieter.
Since kicking off in the U.S. in September 2008, the Time The Conqueror World Tour has encompassed legs in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and Europe. Currently, Browne is in the middle of a two-month summer 2009 North American itinerary, which will conclude the tour. Also in ’09, Browne and his band were featured as the summer season opener for PBS Television’s nationally syndicated program Soundstage, which noted, “Rock’s poet laureate Jackson Browne delivers a remarkable performance featuring tracks from his latest recording…as well as hits from his previous 11 studio albums.”
Since his acclaimed 1972 self-titled debut album, Jackson Browne has defined a genre of songwriting and performing that is charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. Two of his albums, Late For the Sky and The Pretender, are on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” He’s been recognized with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2004) and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame (2007), with recent humanitarian honors including the John Steinbeck Award and the Chapin-World Hunger Year Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award. www.jacksonbrowne.com

In Concert! Reel Big Fish Live! In Concert! is available today, July 21 on Rock Ridge Music for a very fan-friendly price.
The live concert DVD was filmed before a sold-out, hometown crowd at the Grove of Anaheim this past January and features 20 classic Reel Big Fish songs, as well as all of the hilarious in-between-song-banter-and-shenanigans that fans have come to expect.
Reel Big Fish has also lined up another killer summer tour for ‘09. The veteran ska-rock outfit is currently hitting cities across America with 2-Tone legends The English Beat and Orlando, FL-based reggae/ska punks The Supervillains.

Barrett explains, “We are so excited to be playing with one of our favorite bands of all time and one of the biggest influences on our music! We LOVE the English Beat. This tour is a dream come true for us!”
The English Beat front man Dave Wakeling responds, “I was thrilled many years ago to be invited to play at Reel Big Fish’s first album release party, and we are thrilled again to be touring with them now that they are bona fide Skadfathers!”
The trek kicked off July 3rd in Royal Oak, MI. More dates are being confirmed daily and will be posted on www.myspace.com/reelbigfish
