UK rhymemaster Dizzee Rascal wrapped up his most recent U.S. tour last week and zipped back to Europe, where he’ll be playing a slew of festivals throughout June and early July. But stateside fans shouldn’t fret as they’ll now have a second chance to catch the Definitive Jux MC with seven newly announced tour dates this July.
Dizzee will kick things off once again on the East Coast with a headlining gig at New York’s Highline Ballroom before hitting Chicago to claim the highly coveted spot of hip-hop ambassador to day two of the infamous Pitchfork Music Festival (others include Public Enemy on day one and Ghostface and Raekwon on day three) where he’ll take the stage alongside hipster darlings Vampire Weekend, No Age, Jay Reatard, and more. From there he’ll make a sharp turn north to hit Toronto before veering West again for Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Dizzee Rascal tour dates:
July 18 NEW YORK, NY Highline Ballroom
July 19 CHICAGO, IL Pitchfork
July 20 TORONTO, ON Rogers Picnic
July 21 AUSTIN, TX Emo’s
July 22 DENVER, CO Cervante’s
July 24 LOS ANGELES, CA Echoplex
July 25 SAN FRANCISCO, CA Mezzanine
Dizzee spent the month of May hopping city-to-city with Definitive Jux head honcho El-P and indie hip hoppers Busdriver and Kidz in the Hall in support of the North American release of Maths + English. The album, which hit stores April 29th, contains four bonus tracks not included on the UK version. Digital versions on iTunes, eMusic, and Amazon each contain an exclusive remix not on the physical disc.
Somewhere between tour stops, Dizzee took a breather long enough to speak to Hip Hop DX, Ruby Hornet, SixShot.com, and Shabooty, where he shed light on the British hip-hop phenomenon ‘grime’ that he helped create, as well as staking his claim in the U.S. hip hop scene after already having toured with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Jay Z, and Red Hot Chili Peppers overseas. He also sat down with PaperThinWalls to give them an inside scoop on his questionable driving practices back home. Buy your tix to the above dates now and cross your fingers that the London police officers are kind enough to turn the other cheek.

Fresh on the heels of the Bun B-assisted lead single “Where’s Da G’s,” the third full-length from English MC Dizzee Rascal has finally taken its stateside bow. Released on April 29th via Definitive Jux, Maths + English, finds the UK phenom at the top of his game. Waving the Union Jack and Stars and Bars with equal pride, Dizzee invited guests from both sides of the pond to add their talents to his genre-defying concoction of crunk, drum and bass, classic old school rap and grime. In addition to the aforementioned UGK cameo, British hitmakers, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and Lily Allen also lend their vocals to the proceedings. The freshly-released album includes several bonus tracks (both digitally and physically) not originally available on the UK version, in addition to tracks exclusive to iTunes, eMusic, and Amazon’s digital store.
Later this month, Dizzee embarks on a North American tour with labelmate El-P (whose recently-launched blog, Bastards Delight, is definitely worth checking out). Chicago spitsmiths Kidz in the Hall will join the Def Jux duo for dates in New York and Philly, while LA-based Busdriver will tag along through the Minneapolis date. And, of course, last but not least, still rolling on the wild success of None Shall Pass, Def Jux mainstay Aesop Rock will take the stage at Webster Hall in NYC and at the 1015 in San Francisco.

What the Press is Saying:
Dizzee’s despairing wail, focused anger, and cutting sonics places him on the front lines in the battle against a stultifying Britain, just as Pete Townshend, Johnny Rotten, and Morrissey have been in the past. - Pitchfork Media
The best rapper this(The UK) country’s ever produced, period…. Next to Dizzee Rascal everybody looks pale, uninteresting and irrelevant. – UNCUT Magazine
An eclectic, break-dance-worthy Slick Rick reincarnation. – Entertainment Weekly
Brilliantly original. – MOJO
Dizzee Rascal delivered forty minutes of blistering, grimy hip-hop. The set drew heavily from his latest, Maths + English (finally seeing a physical U.S. release April 29 after being out in the U.K. for nearly a year) – Rollingstone Magazine (on 2008 SXSW performance)
Fans were treated to a talented MC with a crew who likes shout-outs and shoes. His set drew as much from excellent early material as it did from Maths + English, and the high-BPM beats kept the show flowing and energetic. – Pitchfork Media (on 2008 SXSW performance)
This U.K. rapper is the reason anyone knows “grime” is a music genre. – Wired Magazine

Dizzee Rascal’s “Where’s Da G’s” featuring Bun B. is already blowing up on the internet, weeks before the stateside release of the British MC’s third full length, Math’s + English, out April 29th via Definitive Jux. The album first hit shelves last year in the UK to a Mercury Music Prize nomination (think the UK’s equivalent of independent music Grammys) and rave reviews from popular British press UNCUT, Mojo Magazine, and more. The US version will include several bonus tracks both digitally and physically, including tracks exclusive to iTunes, eMusic, and Amazon’s digital store.
Dizzee Rascal has been turning heads on both sides of the pond since his 2003 debut album, Boy in Da Corner (which did snag the Mercury Music Prize that year and is lauded as the launching point for the UK grime scene). Since then he’s released a second critically acclaimed album, popped up on a remix of T-Pain’s hit single “I’m Sprung,” held it down with Wyclef Jean, Twista, and Lil Mama on BET’s Cipher for the 2007 Hip Hop Awards, and shared the stage with Bun B, Del the Funky Homosapien, Devin the Dude, and El-P at this year’s SXSW Music Conference. Recently he’s been feverishly showing off his skills with a four minute freestyle on AOL Music and schooling the uninitiated on British slang in anticipation of Maths + English’s U.S. release and an impending tour with labelmate El-P.
