Self-recorded in their own PA studio, Slim & Slender is the brand new 4-song EP by jubilant pop sextet The Spinto Band.  The vinyl and digital only collection, out this week via Park The Van, gives us a little taste of what we can expect from the band’s next LP, also self-recorded, which is due out in 2010. Possibly some of the band’s best material yet, Slim & Slender includes extended instrumental explorations and a bouncy cover of the theme from Terry Gilliam’s Brazil.

The guys will also be heading out on the Park The Van Fall Tour in a few weeks, hitting stages along the east coast and Midwest with label-mates The Generationals and Pepi Ginsberg.  Grab the EP’s lead-off track below, and get ready to catch The Spinto Band in a city near you!

Coldplay have a brand new video for the song “Life In Technicolor II”, which is off their new EP titled Prospekts March.  It’s essentially the same song as the lead track from Viva La Vida, but they’ve added words and lengthened it a bit. In any case, the video is hilarious and worth a look to see Chris Martin dance around in Puppet-form:

The Ying Yang Twins are getting into the holiday spirit with a new Christmas themed EP, The Ying and the Yang of the Holidays, out now through Deep Records. The EP finds the twins striking a Bing Crosby-esque pose and caroling listeners with medleys of traditional Christmas songs with a Ying Yang Twins twist. On “Sleigh Ride” D-Rock and Kaine drink eggnog and smoke blunts while making a Christmas wish for peace in the hood and giving President elect Barack Obama a shout out. “This Christmas” is a soulful take on a holiday classic, and “Deck Da Club” and “Carol of Da Bellz” are quintessential Ying Yang Twins.

The Twins also released a mixtape called The WildOut USO Tour on November 25th following their tour in support of the troops. And the platinum-certified Atlanta duo is already back in the studio, working on their next official full length with platinum-certified producer Joe Traxx (UGK, Scarface, Bun B., Lil Flip, and more).

Listen to Ying Yang Twins “Sleigh Ride” (The Ying and the Yang of the Holidays out Nov 25th Deep Records)

The Ying and the Yang of the Holidays Track List:
1. Sleigh Ride
2. This Christmas
3. Deck Da Club

A movement unto themselves.”—Fader

The band’s quick-fingered, multilayered vamps well up out of murky echoes, piling jubilation
atop the anxiety, before submerging again
.”— The New York Times

Secretly Canadian is pleased to announce the signing of South Africa’s BLK JKS. After an action packed 2008 that found the band playing its first U.S. shows, receiving critical acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, Billboard, The Guardian and Dazed and Confused, the band is poised to build on their initial success with a March 10 release of their MYSTERY EP, which has been re-mastered and re-sequenced. As a preview for fans, MYSTERY will be available for free digital download from eMusic and Other Music Digital December 8 through January 5. In addition to the free digital preview of MYSTERY, a documentary about the band premieres on December 8 at www.digforfire.tv.

BLK JKS came to the U.S. in the spring of 2008 after a chance meeting with über-producer Diplo while he was on tour in South Africa. Landing on the cover of the Fader, as well as sets at the Fader issue release party and South by Southwest, sparked recording sessions at New York’s famed Electric Lady studios that resulted in the MYSTERY EP. The record was produced by Brandon Curtis of the Secret Machines, who came to BLK JKS as a fan of the band.

BLK JKS consists of childhood friends Linda and Mpumi who grew up on the same block in Johannesburg’s East Rand where they taught themselves guitar. They initially formed the band in 2000, and early BLK JKS shows and recordings garnered attention for their stacks of guitar drone and head-nodding beats. After the band’s current lineup took shape with the addition of bassist Molefi and drummer Tshepang, both of Soweto, they embarked on a schedule of heavy touring throughout South Africa that earned them a loyal national following. The limited edition release of BLK JKS’ now out-of-print 2007 “Lakeside” vinyl-only 10” marked the band’s international debut, selling at select record stores worldwide.

AGE OF DAZE - “AFFLICTED” Streaming Audio

AGE OF DAZE - “AFFLICTED” Music Video:
Hollywood Ending, is made up of eight skillfully-crafted, unadulterated rock songs, ranging the gamut from passionate ballad to kickass guitar anthem. And yes, the results are in… 10 out of 10 blind listening sessions have concluded …there’s no @!* way this band is staying indie… In fact, they don’t sound indie at all!!

For those of you who haven’t heard the band (and have no fear, you will soon), AOD is 100% rock - pure and simple. Kinda like orange juice - with all the pulp but none of the acid! With 3 pounding guitars, 1 killer bass and a drum kit that gets the shit kicked out if it every time it’s played, this band has a sound that draws you in, rocks your soul, then locks you into an addiction you’ll never get rid of…not that you’d want to! The success of Afflicted , the band’s first single to be released on traditional radio in Canada and on Sirius satellite radio in the US, has been nothing short of mind-blowing when you consider the band hasn’t put anything out there but the song…meaning no gigantic publicity machine, no dipping into limitless pools of corporate marketing cash, no grueling cross-country tour … All hail to the Internet – the true litmus test of what’s hot and what’s not…and AFFLICTED is definitely smokin’ according to AOD’s MySpace fans!

For those of you in.the.know, it shouldn’t be surprising that Age of Daze have made themselves quite at home on Sirius Octane’s Top 20 Rock Charts, dueling with the likes of 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd, Seether and Chevelle for most played and most requested song with incredible ease – like they were born to be there (and quite frankly, we think they were). Again, not an insignificant accomplishment for an indie band from somewhere.up.there.north.of.the.border. Even band members agree they’re not the type of band you’d expect from “out east.” But hey, when you aim high, you usually win big. And win big they have - garnering a loyal family of rock fans that span the far corners of the globe - from New Zealand to Italy, from Portland to England, and almost every damn state in the mighty US of A!

On this side of the 49th P, Afflicted is blazing up the Media Base Top 20 Rock Charts, getting airplay and support from coast 2 coast. With gigs this year during the ECMAs and CMW, their ability to win over any crowd has been nothing short of phenomenal. It’s no wonder the band is having such a hard time keeping the album stocked - the requests just keep getting louder and louder!

But the one thing that really makes your head spin about this album is the talent behind it, and the focus of the band members. With dig deep, passionate vocals, the power of three rockin’ guitars, heavy bass and the craziest @%! drummer relentlessly thrashing his skins (not to mention the sweat flying around on stage) - they’re the real deal. They’re stoked and they’re in it to win it. Says lead vocalist Tim Morrison, “you gotta go big or go home” – full stop.

From the sound of things… they ain’t goin’ home anytime soon!

TRACKLISTING - Hollywood Ending:
1. Afflicted
2. Change Everything
3. Believe
4. Overrated
5. In The Moment
6. Thought You Should Know
7. Cure For You
8. BONUS TRACK (Believe Acoustic)
