Today marks the digital release of ”Who Do We Care For?,” the new single from Sebastien Grainger and second official single from his 2008 debut full-length Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains. ”Who Do We Care For” is backed with ”It’s a Living,” a new track recently recorded for this release. Both tracks are available through the Saddle Creek Online Store, iTunes, emusic and other digital outlets.
Videos for both songs are also available for purchase via iTunes (individually or as a video/mp3 bundle) and for viewing at the youtube links below. ”Who Do We Care For” was directed by Graydon Sheppard and features everything you could ever want in a big rock video - excellent cinematography, the band performing in the cold of Canada, and of course smoke and fire! The video for ”It’s a Living” provides a nice contrast by showing some of the studio recording for the song. The clip was shot and directed by Sebastien.

Cursive has confirmed that their sixth full-length studio album, Mama, I’m Swollen, will be released March 10, 2009 on Saddle Creek Records. The follow-up to 2006’s Happy Hollow – which was heralded by publications such as Alternative Press, Spin, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, and Blender as an adventurous and triumphant evolution of the band – the new album was recorded this past summer and fall at ARC Studios in Omaha, NE. Track listing for Mama, I’m Swollen is as follows:
1. In The Now
2. From The Hips
3. I Couldn’t Love You

7. Mama, I’m Satan

10. What Have I Done?
Wrestling with life’s miseries and mysteries, Mama, I’m Swollen is an album brimming with the universal, questioning the human condition, social morality, and the ‘Peter Pan Syndrome’ of grown men. Road-tested and refined this past spring and summer via a series of one-off tour dates, Cursive recently previewed the new material to their ardent fans on an 11-date small club tour last month Check out a series of videos from the tour on Saddle Creek’s YouTube channel! (www.youtube.com/saddlecreekrecords) Of the Cleveland show and new material, Alternative Press’ Music Editor Scott Heisel blogged: “I saw Cursive tonight. Holy h**l, they were awesome. They sprinkled five new songs into their set, my favorite of which has been titled ‘What Have I Done?’ by fans online. Stop whatever you’re doing and spend the next eight minutes watching a video of this absolutely incredible song…I also want to hear Cursive’s new album…ASAP.”

BIO
It’s beyond fitting that Neva Dinova has found a new home at Saddle Creek. You May Already Be Dreaming, the band’s third full-length and first since 2005’s The Hate Yourself Change (Crank/Sidecho) is a lush, largely electric affair rich with the rural textures that pepper releases from the band’s Omaha contemporaries. Having been a staple in the scene since guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jake Bellows and bassist Heath Koontz began collaborating in the early nineties, Neva Dinova (named after Bellows’ grandmother) have continually evolved their melancholic sound, making masterful use of counterbalanced melodies and poetic lyricism. Bellows began composing songs for You May Already Be Dreaming two years ago, but he and the band–including The Good Life drummer Roger Lewis–were fated to overcome a number of obstacles (including a busted eardrum resulting from a barroom tussle and a practice space flood) before tracking the album at a friend’s warehouse. From the spacious guitar washes of “A Man and His Dream” to the sweeping, dusty strength of “Clouds”, this is the band’s most fluid and realized effort to date.
Montreal trio Land of Talk have announced North American Fall tour plans in support of their debut full-length, Some Are Lakes, set for release October 7 via Saddle Creek in America and self-released through Secret City distribution in Canada. Touring will kick off with a special performance in New York City, September 11 at The Mercury Lounge, before two-weeks of east coast Canadian dates. The band will then commence a three-week run of U.S. dates opening for Broken Social Scene, starting October 8 in Grand Rapids, MI.
Land Of Talk front person, Elizabeth Powell, will join Broken Social Scene each night on the tour as guest vocalist on various songs throughout their set in addition to Land of Talk’s opening performance. Elizabeth can be heard contributing vocals on the acclaimed Broken Social Scene Presents: Brendan Canning Something For All Of Us…. album as well as the soundtrack to the Broken Social Scene scored film The Tracey Fragments, starring Ellen Page.
The soon to be released Some Are Lakes continues to showcase the bands powerful dynamics, raw musical and Powell’s vocal convictions which Time Out NY called, “a voice that flits between come-hither and go-fuck-yourself.”

BIO:
When Sebastien Grainger, former drummer/singer of Death from Above 1979, set out to make his first solo record he weighed his options–in one hand he held a guitar and a microphone and, in the other, he held everything else. For the last year, amidst sporadic emergences onstage, he’s been in his studio working and reworking a set of songs some of which have become the EP American Names.
Songs that were originally written alone in the stillness of night became energized through touring as a four-piece band. Made livelier, these songs were brought back to the studio to be given Grainger’s layered “wall of sound” production. The outcome is a new sound that followers of his previous musical endeavors may be surprised to hear–this is a clear melodic statement. And while his new songs may have an affinity for the balladry of days gone by, Grainger manages to remain contemporary.
While Grainger will modestly tell you “every song is a problem, or an equation that I have to resolve,” it’s obvious that the outcomes are richer and more soulful than mere resolvability. Feeling like he is finally expressing himself on these new recordings, Grainger is eager to return to the road and entwine himself in the cultural fabric. Although he’s a self-described “domestic person,” Grainger’s penchant for singing loud, performing and getting sweaty is real–as real as people’s enthusiasm for him to keep doing so.
And with his debut full-length Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains slated to drop in October, the world will undoubtedly be seeing a lot more of Sebastien Grainger. And with regards to the new full-length, he comments, “this record is an opening statement but in no way do I think it’s a map of things to come… it’s a ‘jump off’ … hopefully a solid step back into the world.” He’s quick to add, “I still haven’t written my ‘Thunder Road’” and, like all craftsmen enamored with their craft, Sebastien Grainger wouldn’t stop even if he did.

Here it is! The first MP3 from the much anticipated Tokyo Police Club debut full length, Elephant Shell. The song is called “In A Cave”, and the album comes out April 22nd. See below for tour dates, these guys are not to be missed!!!
Tokyo Police Club - “In A Cave”
BIO:
Following on one of the most well received 16 minutes of music in recent history (2006’s A Lesson In Crime EP), Newmarket Ontario’s Tokyo Police Club will release a debut album entitled Elephant Shell, due out late April on Saddle Creek in North America and Memphis Industries in the UK.
Elephant Shell lands roughly a year and half after A Lesson In Crime (with last year’s Smith EP and “Your English Is Good” digi-single and a ton of touring also bridging the gap) and barely four years from the band’s 2005 formation. Not bad for four friends who learned to play during senior year in high school, later naming themselves for a nonsensical lyric from the song that would become track one on their first EP, which would in turn sell over 70,000 copies-probably about 69,000 more than they expected-and garner accolades from Entertainment Weekly (”We can hardly wait for the full length A-), Rolling Stone (”If only all young guitar bands were smart enough to rock out this fast, banging out seven first-rate mod-punk party starters in barely more than sixteen minutes”), Interview, Blender, Nylon and The New York Times among others.
If bassist/vocalist David Monks once described the band’s music as “wide-eyed post-punk with a tendency to get over excited-so much so that someone has to come and tell it to settle down,” Elephant Shell is the sound of four early-20-somethings now seasoned through hundreds of shows from tiny clubs to the festival throngs at Coachella and Glastonbury, maturing a bit and learning to temper and modulate their own more varied musical moods. Or maybe Canada’s socialized health care means easier access to generic Ritalin and Adderall?
Either way, Elephant Shell delivers on every bit of promise in Tokyo Police Club’s rapid-fire barrage of material to date. The opening one-two of “Centennial” and “In A Cave” barely evaporates before “Graves” and “Juno” pack innumerable hooks and “what-does-that-remind-me-of” glimmers into meager 2-minute-and-change frameworks, while “Tessellate” and “Sixties Remake” encapsulate everything great about the manic TPC live experience: soaring guitar signatures and keyboard figures, driving backbeats and irresistible singalongs abound. Elsewhere, “The Harrowing Adventures Of…” and the down tempo standout “Listen To The Math” find our young protagonists ably adapting their energy into more subdued structures before the rousing coda of “The Baskervilles” brings the record to an all-too-early halt.
