I wonder what this means for the new Strokes record that was apparently in the works? Read more from NME.com:

Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas is to release a solo album, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The singer is currently finishing working on his first full record outside the band ahead, with a release pencilled for the autumn. A trailer for the album can be watched below.

The record, called ‘Phrazes For The Young’ was recorded in Los Angeles, Nebraska and Casablancas’ home city, New York.

The album was produced by Jason Lader, with additional production from Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis.

Tracks slated for ‘Phrazes For The Young’, include ‘River Of Brake Lights’ and ‘Ludlow St’.

Casablancas - who issued the illustration pictured - is set to play a “specials series” of US dates, ahead of a solo tour later in 2009.

Casablancas – who since the last album from The Strokes released ‘My Drive Thru’ with Santigold and Pharrell Williams and collaborated with Danger Mouse on the recent ‘Dark Night Of The Soul’ album – is the fourth Stroke to release an album not connected with the band.

He follows solo albums from Albert Hammond, Jr. and Nikolai Fraiture along with drummer Fab Moretti’s side project Little Joy.

Guitarist Nick Valensi, meanwhile, has undertaken a photography project.

As one half of The Raveonettes, Sune Rose Wagner has spent the past seven years offering up noir-ish gutter rock and fuzzed out pop with his bandmate Sharin Foo. This week, however, the Danish-bred songwriter takes his bow as a solo artist with his eponymous debut, ten tracks of vintage Specter-esque sounds and hazy rock n roll. The album comes on the heels of a successful year for the Raveonettes, whose February release Lust Lust Lust has already landed year-end accolades from Paste Magazine, MTV2, and a host of others. Distinctly setting it apart from his output with Foo, Wagner’s solo album is delivered exclusively in his native tongue. But, don’t fret, Danish is a beautiful language, complimenting the US transplant’s soothing coo perhaps even better than the English he employs on countless Raveonettes releases. The stand-out here is the blissful “Beruset of Forhadt”,

B-Real, a rapper of Mexican and Afro-Cuban heritage, is best known for being the lead rapper in the hip hop group Cypress Hill. Since the group’s formation in 1988, the pioneering rap-rock quartet Cypress Hill — founders B-Real, DJ Muggs, and Sen Dog, along with newest member Eric Bobo — have come a long way from the streets of South Central L.A. Over the course of its 17-year history, Cypress Hill has sold more than 17 million albums worldwide, including more than 11 million records in the U.S. alone. The group has garnered 15 multi-platinum, platinum and gold certifications from the RIAA; headlined Lollapalooza, Woodstock and the group’s own Smokin’ Grooves tour. B-Real has appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” all the while breaking down the musical and cultural barriers between hip-hop, alternative, metal, rock, reggae, ska and Latin music.

Recently, B-Real, along with Cypress Hill received a VH1 Hip Hop Honors, to celebrate the vision and innovation that the group continues to bring to Hip Hop, strengthening its force around the world. Other artists honored in 2008 were De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick and Too Short.

In B-Real’s first ever solo effort, “SMOKE N MIRRORS”, he wanted to showcase his musical talent over beats produced by Alchemist, Scoop Deville, & Sick Jacken (from Psycho Realm). B-Real produced several songs on the project as well, including the lead track FIRE with Damian Marley. “Smoke N Mirrors” also features tracks with Snoop Dogg, Buckshot, Kurupt, Too Short, Sen Dog, of Cypress Hill, & Young De.

B-Real is confident his fans will appreciate “Smoke N Mirrors” stating: “I am excited to be putting out my first solo project.  It’s been in the works for a while now.   I want to show my fans a different side to my creative abilities including my own production.  I am also excited to have teamed up with Duck Down.  They have a strong team and I believe they will push my project to the fullest.”

Two Videos will be filmed off “Smoke N Mirrors” for “Don’t Ya Dare Laugh” featuring Young De and “FIRE” featuring Damian Marley.

USMagazine.com is giving fans the first listen of Heidi Montag’s latest single “Higher” today with a full track stream on their website. “Higher” shows a softer side of The Hills star, taking a turn away from the dance-floor territory of previous singles “Body Language” and “Touch Me” towards the realm of the pop ballad with an uplifting message.  “The past is the past and you don’t have one moment to look back,” Heidi states. “You create your life and what happens.  I wanted to portray this message and energy in my song and hopefully give people the same feeling.  My album is about living life every moment and having fun.”

The single, produced by Theron Feemster (Nelly, Mary J. Blige), will be available in iTunes starting Tuesday, February 5th and will be accompanied by a video directed by Montag’s boyfriend Spencer Pratt. All additional major digital music retailers will have “Higher” for sale starting February 26th.

In addition, Heidi chatted with Myspace Celebrity about “Higher,” her future plans, and the biggest misconception people have of her. Visit Myspace Celebrity’s Q&A to read the entire exchange.
