TOKYO POLICE CLUB will play live on MTV’s F’N MTV Friday, July 25, performing “Graves” from its acclaimed debut album Elephant Shell. TOKYO POLICE CLUB’s live performance on F’N MTV marks a logical progression from previous performers and obvious TPC peers Lil Wayne, Maroon 5 and Snoop Dogg, and will school the show’s audience as to why the Newmarket Ontario quartet is “poised to be the biggest Canadian export since Molson” (ROLLING STONE).
Prior to the F’N MTV live performance, TOKYO POLICE CLUB returns to its native Canada this weekend for the Summersonic and Rogers Picnic festivals, while the remainder of July and August finds the band making its way through Australia, Japan and London.
TOKYO POLICE CLUB will continue its relentless touring regimen with another string of U.S. dates beginning September 8 in Baltimore and featuring headline dates at the likes of Los Angeles’ Henry Fonda Theater, as well appearances at the Street Scene, Treasure Island and Voodoo Festivals.

Although Tokyo Police Club is already embarked on a summer itinerary that includes Denmark, Japan, and Australia, the band has begun plotting a fall return to the US. In addition to previously announced appearances at the Monolith and Treasure Island Festivals in September, the band will headline the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles on September 18th, and New York’s Webster Hall on October 18th.
The band’s incessant touring is in support of their debut full length album Elephant Shell, which was released earlier this year by Saddle Creek Records. Elle called the album “a smart, furiously played, sugar-rush debut that sounds like it was inspired by Red Bull benders and unrequited love.” The Los Angeles Times seconded that emotion, describing the album as “like being in love for the first time, in musical form - that kind of rush.” Men’s Health also weighed in, calling Elephant Shell “an aural adrenaline rush, all the way.”
Finally, the band is teaming with the Lupus Foundation Of America to raise money for continued research of lupus, an incurable disease that affects over 1.5 million Americans. Tokyo Police Club’s cover of The Rentals’ song “Friends Of P” is streaming (and available for download if you’re clever) at FriendsofP.org, where visitors can make donations and possibly receive a limited-edition Friends Of P tote bag.
Confirmed US tour dates are below, stay tuned to TokyoPoliceClub.com for further tour announcements. For more info on the band’s upcoming tour dates and new album drop me a line, or contact Steve Martin and Eliot Wadsworth at Nasty Little Man.

Here it is! The first MP3 from the much anticipated Tokyo Police Club debut full length, Elephant Shell. The song is called “In A Cave”, and the album comes out April 22nd. See below for tour dates, these guys are not to be missed!!!
Tokyo Police Club - “In A Cave”
BIO:
Following on one of the most well received 16 minutes of music in recent history (2006’s A Lesson In Crime EP), Newmarket Ontario’s Tokyo Police Club will release a debut album entitled Elephant Shell, due out late April on Saddle Creek in North America and Memphis Industries in the UK.
Elephant Shell lands roughly a year and half after A Lesson In Crime (with last year’s Smith EP and “Your English Is Good” digi-single and a ton of touring also bridging the gap) and barely four years from the band’s 2005 formation. Not bad for four friends who learned to play during senior year in high school, later naming themselves for a nonsensical lyric from the song that would become track one on their first EP, which would in turn sell over 70,000 copies-probably about 69,000 more than they expected-and garner accolades from Entertainment Weekly (”We can hardly wait for the full length A-), Rolling Stone (”If only all young guitar bands were smart enough to rock out this fast, banging out seven first-rate mod-punk party starters in barely more than sixteen minutes”), Interview, Blender, Nylon and The New York Times among others.
If bassist/vocalist David Monks once described the band’s music as “wide-eyed post-punk with a tendency to get over excited-so much so that someone has to come and tell it to settle down,” Elephant Shell is the sound of four early-20-somethings now seasoned through hundreds of shows from tiny clubs to the festival throngs at Coachella and Glastonbury, maturing a bit and learning to temper and modulate their own more varied musical moods. Or maybe Canada’s socialized health care means easier access to generic Ritalin and Adderall?
Either way, Elephant Shell delivers on every bit of promise in Tokyo Police Club’s rapid-fire barrage of material to date. The opening one-two of “Centennial” and “In A Cave” barely evaporates before “Graves” and “Juno” pack innumerable hooks and “what-does-that-remind-me-of” glimmers into meager 2-minute-and-change frameworks, while “Tessellate” and “Sixties Remake” encapsulate everything great about the manic TPC live experience: soaring guitar signatures and keyboard figures, driving backbeats and irresistible singalongs abound. Elsewhere, “The Harrowing Adventures Of…” and the down tempo standout “Listen To The Math” find our young protagonists ably adapting their energy into more subdued structures before the rousing coda of “The Baskervilles” brings the record to an all-too-early halt.

Finally! Wow, this debut has been a long time coming, it seems Tokyo Police Club have been riding their 4 song EP A Lesson in Crime for years! Can’t wait for this one, read below for more info on the album due in late April.

Following on one of the most well received 16 minutes of music in recent history (2006’s A Lesson In Crime EP), Ontario’s favorite sons TOKYO POLICE CLUB confirm the completion and release of their first full length album, Elephant Shell, due out late April on Saddle Creek in North America and Memphis Industries in the UK.
Tokyo Police Club was formed in 2004 by David Monks (vocals, bass), Josh Hook (guitar), Graham Wright (keyboards) and Greg Alsop (drums) during their senior year in high school. Within two years they had released the aforementioned debut EP, immediately eliciting raves from Entertainment Weekly (”We can hardly wait for the full lengthŠ A-),Rolling Stone (”If only all young guitar bands were smart enough to rock out this fast”), Interview, Blender and Nylon among others. Since then, TPC has been touring virtually non-stop, pausing only to release last year’s Smith EP and digital-only single “Your English Is Good” / “Swedes In Stockholm,” and of course to record Elephant Shell.
The complete track listing for Elephant Shell is: “Centennial,” “In A Cave,” “Graves,” “Juno,” “Tessellate,” “Sixties Remake,” “The Harrowing Adventures Of…,” “Nursery Academy,” “Your English Is Good,” “Listen To The Math,” “The Baskervilles”
Tokyo Police Club begins a tour January 23rd at Connexion in Oakville, ONT, with dates running up to the release of Elephant Shell and beyond (Tonight’s show at Ottawa’s Algonquin College has been rescheduled due to weather conditions). See the attached listing of all confirmed dates.

It seems like Tokyo Police Club has been an “it” band for like 3 years now and they’re still riding on the buzz of a few EP’s… They’re apparently nearing completion of their first LP, but in the meantime its been the aforementioned EP’s, some scattered touring and this song, “Your English Is Good”. I believe the song will be on the upcoming debut, and if its any indication of what we can expect, then all the built up and delayed buzz for these guys will be justified. I think they’re one of the most exciting new bands out there and really can’t to hear some more from them. Do yourself a favor and check them out immediately:
