A set of blueprints found in a Berlin apartment prove the Nazis had been planning the genocide of European Jews for longer than earlier thought.  The yellowing blueprints to Auschwitz are dated 23 October, 1941, and show the plans for the concentration camp located near Krakow, Poland.  The plans have rooms “gas chamber,” “crematorium,” and “corpse cellar,” proving beyond a doubt that Auschwitz was more than just a labor camp, as Holocaust deniers believe.  Read more…

From The Nation:

Myth 1. It’s a dangerous world. We face an array of serious national security threats that require an experienced Commander in Chief.

Myth 2. The surge has worked. To withdraw from Iraq now would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and embolden Islamic extremists.

Myth 3. We cannot allow Afghanistan to become a safe haven for terrorists. We therefore must redouble our military efforts there or face another terrorist attack.

Myth 4. Iran is responsible for much of the violence against US forces in Iraq; by using its proxies in Lebanon and Gaza, it threatens to dominate the Middle East.

Myth 5. To talk to the leaders of “rogue” states like Iran and Cuba without conditions legitimizes their position and weakens American leverage.

Myth 6. Vladimir Putin’s Russia is an authoritarian state pursuing an anti-American agenda aimed at reconstituting the Soviet Union in the form of a new Russian empire.

Myth 7. Because the American military is stretched thin by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must increase the size of our conventional armed forces.

Myth 8. A League of Democracies would create a global coalition for peace and freedom and would enable the United States and its democratic allies to intervene to solve humanitarian and other crises when the UN Security Council is paralyzed.

Myth 9. Globalization has strengthened the economy, and we cannot avoid it by hiding behind protectionist walls.

Myth 10. The world needs American leadership.

Interesting myths, no? To find out more about why they are myths, click and read The Nation:

This was probably not that far-fetched of an idea… especially since the US and UK probably tried to implement this after WWII, and the Soviets and US did just that.  Either way, funny to read it now:

An amateur diplomat alarmed British officials during World War II by proposing that Germany and Britain divide the world between them, according to records released Sunday.

James Lonsdale-Bryans, a fascist sympathizer, traveled to Italy early in the war to meet the German ambassador, Ulrich von Hassell.

“It would appear that Bryans may be taking part in unofficial discussions,” said a Secret Service memo released by the National Archives.

“Bryans’ idea is that the world ought to be divided into two parts. That Germany should be given a free hand in Europe and that the British Empire should run the rest of the world.

“I am not sure that this is a very desirable point of view to publish at the present time.”

“Iraq is not Nazi Germany,” says Congressman Ron Paul to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, “and besides, I thought it was Hitler that caused World War II, not the American people, who opposed going in.”

Senator and fellow presidential candidate John McCain confuses “isolationism” and “non-intervention,” says Paul. “I advocate non-intervention: Not getting involved in the internal affairs of other nations, and not pretending a country like Iraq is equivalent to Nazi Germany.”

Continues the Congressman, “Iraq had no Army, no Navy, and no weapons of mass destruction; had nothing to do with 9/11… so the comparison makes no sense.”

Three men in Germany have been arrested on terms of having planned a major attack against a US military base in Ramstein and Frankfurt airport.

Three men have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of planning a “massive” terrorist attack on US facilities in the country, officials have said.

Federal prosecutor Monika Harms said the three had trained at camps in Pakistan and procured some 700kg (1,500lbs) of chemicals for explosives.

She said the accused had sought to target facilities visited by Americans, such as nightclubs, pubs or airports.

Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung said the men had posed “an imminent threat”.”

I am most certain, by this point, that politics and the idea of moving towards international peace, do not stand a chance together.

Ah, free beer… the demise of so many. I’m not sure if this should be considered worthy of World News, but I’ll be damned if its not hilarious. From Reuters.com:

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German phone thief led police right to his front door when they called the stolen mobile to say he had won some free beer and he willingly gave his address.

“An officer called and said, ‘You’ve won a crate of beer’,” said a spokesman for police in the eastern town of Neustrelitz Friday.

“Then he asked where he lived so he could drop the beer off, and the guy told him. I think the man was drunk.”

Upon landing in Berlin, Isreali PM Ehud Olmert - in one speech - admitted that Israel is a nuclear power and blackmailed Germans to turn their backs on their own interests because, essentially, it still owed Israel.

The Admission:

“Iran, openly, explicitly and publicly threatens to wipe Israel off the map. Can you say that this is the same level, when they are aspiring to have nuclear weapons, as America, France, Israel, Russia?”

Blackmail:

In comments broadcast Monday ahead of his visit to Berlin, Olmert said Germany must not use business as a pretext for a relationship with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has described the Holocaust as a “myth” and called for Israel to be wiped off the map.

The broadcast also coincided with a widely criticized conference in Tehran attended by prominent Holocaust deniers from around the world.

“May I suggest to the German people, don’t ever again use this argument when it comes to the life of the Jewish people. You may have an economic interest, you may have a business interest, but you have deeper and more fundamental moral obligation to yourself, to your history and to your future,” he told the German TV station N24, Sat1. “This is a responsibility of the highest order.”

Since World War II, Germany has paid billions of dollars in reparations to Israel and victims of the Holocaust, and relations between the countries are strong.
