This ridiculousness is not going to encourage more people to donate a kidney!

Kidney donors may face huge medical bills because having one kidney may constitute a pre-existing condition under which coverage is denied, officials confirm.

A Texas hospital official said organ donors are told, but only orally, that having one kidney may be a pre-existing condition affecting insurance.

Junk food-specifically soda has been linked to obesity according to recent research… although it seems like a no brainer.

The reason is why the idea to tax junk food was brought up as a solution to come up with about $1 trillion in funding to change the United State’s health care system.

Public health advocates say drinking soda is directly linked to obesity, which is partly responsible for skyrocketing health care costs.

“This study that we did with UCLA showed that regardless of income or ethnicity, adults who drink one or more soda a day are 27 percent more likely to be overweight or obese,” says Harold Goldstein, a physician and executive director of the California Center for Public Health Advocacy.

On average, Goldstein says, Americans drink 50 gallons of soda a year. He says it should be taxed so the beverage industry pays its fair share for the obesity epidemic.

More than 700 schools in the United States are currently closed due to the H1N1 (we’re-not-allowed-to-call-it-“swine-flu”-anymore) flu scare. The US government is now saying these schools should reopen, as the flu risk has been recently lowered. However, anyone infected with the virus is still asked to stay home for a 7-day period (duh).

The US has reported 403 cases of H1N1, most of which have been mild. Read more…

John McCain has said a number of things that he regrets, as points out the Washington Monthly:

There have been plenty of comments John McCain has made over the course of the campaign, which he now regrets. Admitting he doesn’t understand the economy certainly ranks right up there; calling Social Security a “disgrace” has to be in the top five; and his dismissal of those who seek national office after a short time as a governor certainly looks embarrassing.

For some reason, Obama’s camp are not nailing him hard enough on his verbal stupidities… but I am hoping that they do on this next gem (I’m not alone in that assessment), unearthed by Paul Kurgman:

“Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”

Let’s make one thing very clear: McCain does not get economics (what was his rank when he graduated?  894th out of 899 students folks)… but as much as Dubya Mission Accomplished our military in his family’s vendetta against the Husseins (the Bush Klan did wipe out Uday, Qusay and Saddam, no?), McCain will ensure that both our financial and health systems will be mission accomplished, too.
