This video is as amazing as it is terrifying.  The horrible 4 minutes that he is buried alive is redeemed by the incredible rescue that opens up to blue sky.  Wow:

Despite numerous attempts by responsible people everywhere it seems that rookie hazing will never go out of style! It’s to see the tradition is still respected by the time players get to the pros!  Here are some classics from the NFL as told by Amog.com:

 5. Can I Have Your Autograph?

Some of us will never get to know what it feels like to be asked for an autograph. I bet it’s a thrill for a rookie in the NFL. However, it turns out that this was just a prank for QB Kyle Orton in 2005.

Bear’s center Olin Kreutz asked Orton to sign a helmet for his family. The autographed helmet was not for Kreutz’s family. Instead the helmet in question actually belonged to one Kyle Orton, who if you haven’t guessed, had to practice in it.

4. The Bicycle Tree

Even some of the best NFL players need a laugh here and there. Joe Montana was known to put rookie’s bikes in different trees.

It seems a little tacky and harmless, but considering that the practice field was only about a quarter-mile from the housing facility, bikes were the main source of transportation. After a tough day on the field a player would have to fetch his bike from a tree, only to discover that he just got someone else’s bike down.

3. Payback is a Bitch

There’s a rule that even non-NFL players know – do what the Vets tell you. I guess OT Chris Colmer didn’t get that message.

In 2005, FB Mike Alstott asked the rookie to get him a Gatorade. Colmer decided to be a wise guy and drew a map to the fridge for Alstott instead. As redemption, Alstott took the wheels off of Colmer’s car and left a map on the windshield to where the tires were.

2. Hey Mom! I Made The Pro-Bowl!

Maurice Jones-Drew retold this prank, as what he perceived as a funny joke, about rookie DE Quentin Groves in 2008.

One of the Jags defensive linemen told Groves that he had made the Pro Bowl. A dream come true, right? Groves did the natural thing and called his family, friends, etc. in his excitement. After practice his teammates broke the news that it was just a joke. I would hate to have made that return call.

1. When The Saints Go Hazing

When Ditka coached the Saints back in 1998 he may have let some pranks go a little too far. Not one, but two players, were injured during a hazing incident. On the final night of camp the Vets forced the rookies to run the gauntlet. They were kicked, elbowed and hit with bags filled of coins as they made their way through.

Rookie Tight End Cam Cleeland got smacked in the left eye and had to go to get a CAT scan. He even had to go to an eye specialist to make sure everything was alright. During the same night, rookie DT Jeff Danish put his hand through a window after the gauntlet. Danish went on to sue the Saints, six players and an assistant coach for assault, which was settled out of court.

Quarterback for the New England Patriots, and heartthrob to all expects to be ready for the season opener against Buffalo.

Brady had a sore shoulder after defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth of the Redskins landed on him in the second half of New England’s exhibition win over Washington on Friday.

It’s not time to start changing your fantasy football team yet. Brady called into WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan show on Monday morning and had little concern that his injury would have any affect on his game.

“I certainly am expecting [to be ready],” he told the radio show. “The hit that I took, I just fell awkwardly, and any time a 350-pound man lands on you, most people would be a little bit sore — which I was. But I’m really looking forward to this week and getting prepared for this game, and then Buffalo is right around the corner.”

Wow, this guy is a moron! If you’re going to try and break the world record for High Dive, you should probably be 100% certain that landing belly flop is not an option.  Amazing that he didn’t break his back/die:

This is horrible… from AP.org:

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) - Women fainted with grief and wailed in sorrow Monday outside a morgue in Abidjan where the bodies of 19 soccer fans killed in a weekend stadium stampede were being held.

Mothers and sisters of the dead sobbed as they held each other, while fathers and brothers stood, their eyes red with sorrow.

World soccer body FIFA demanded an investigation into Sunday’s tragedy and the prime minister of Ivory Coast convened an emergency Cabinet meeting Monday to look into the stampede that left 19 dead and at least 132 injured at a World Cup qualifying match.

Thousands of fans at the capital’s main Felix Houphouet-Boigny arena pushed against each other before Sunday’s game between Ivory Coast and Malawi, setting off a panic that led to the stampede, Interior Minister Desire Tagro said on state television.

The melee prompted security forces to fire tear gas, which witnesses say forced fans to hurl themselves toward the field, causing a wall to come down and setting off a stampede.

Tagro gave the death toll Sunday, but there was no immediate update Monday on the condition of the injured. The game took place despite the deaths and Ivory Coast won 5-0.

Sunday’ game drew tens of thousands because of the presence of Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, a native of Ivory Coast who is seen as superstar in his home country. Drogba scored twice in the victory.

At the downtown morgue, family members were told to come and identify the dead. The morgue showed reporters a list of 19 names - including two children, the youngest of whom was age 10.

Momodou Kamara, who waited outside the morgue, blamed police for his brother’s death. “My brother left to go to the stadium with his friends. At the entrance, they were attacked by security forces. That’s what set off the stampede,” he said.

Diarassouba Adama, who was inside the stadium at the time, also blamed police for the deadly tragedy.

“We saw people falling from the top bleachers. The stampede was provoked by the security forces who threw tear gas canisters at us. I don’t know why they fired on us,” he said as stood vigil outside the morgue.

State TV announced that Prime Minister Guillaume Soro was holding an emergency cabinet meeting later Monday to deal with the national tragedy. In Zurich, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter offered his condolences and also demanded a full investigation into the stampede.

from CNN.com:

(CNN) — American cyclist Lance Armstrong suffered a shattering blow in his comeback bid on Monday when he broke his right collarbone after falling on the first stage of a five-day race in northern Spain.

Emerging from a hospital with his arm in a sling, Armstrong said he will return to the United States, where doctors will determined whether he needs surgery.

“I’m miserable,” said the record seven-time Tour de France champion. “I just need to relax a couple of days and then make a plan.”

Armstrong could be out for three to four weeks said Jacinto Vidarte, spokesman for the Vuelta Ciclista Castilla y Leon race, following a crash that involved a group of 15 to 20 riders some 20 kilometers from the finish.

The injury looks certain to end Armstrong’s hopes of challenging for the Giro d’Italia from May 9-31 and must cast big doubts on his plans to chase an eighth Tour crown from July 4-26 in France.

The 37-year-old Armstrong was taken to a hospital by ambulance and was seen pointing to his collarbone, CNN’s Al Goodman reported from northern Spain.

Armstrong, who came out of retirement after more than three years to return to competitive cycling with Astana in January, walked to the ambulance unaided, television pictures from the scene showed.

Bartosz Huzarski, a cyclist racing for the Italian team ISD, saw the fall, but said he did not know what had caused it. Only Armstrong appeared to indicate he was hurt, the Polish cyclist said.

The fall took place a on a sunny day on a stretch of two-lane highway, Goodman said, as riders tackled the 104-mile (168-km) opening stage, as Armstrong stepped up his latest return to the sport.

Armstrong’s first comeback came in 1998, two years after he was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain. Doctors gave him a less than 50 percent chance of survival.
