While you have to admit the recession sucks, there are some positive results.  One is that travel, if you can afford it, can be relatively cheap, depending where you go.  Either airfares are down, or the local currency is sagging so everything once you arrive is discounted.  Here are a few locations you should think about taking advantage of before the recession ends:

Tourism to Italy dropped 25 per cent in 2008 from the previous year.  The tourism industry is the country’s most important business, affecting many other industries: restaurateurs and tour bus operators both complain of empty seats.  The country claims that fewer visitors are coming from Europe, Russia and Japan; however the most missed tourists are from the United States.  Read more…

Well, this is odd:

Among those was an incident in July of 2004, when Aeroflot said three male flight attendants got drunk and beat up a passenger who complained about poor service on a flight from Moscow to the west Siberian town of Nizhnevartovsk.
