Today, the game has sold 125 million copies. Tetris was created at the height of the Cold War in 1984. And, where most companies are spending millions of dollars developing new games, Tetris is a title that has stayed around for 25 years as a worldwide sensation. The game’s creator, Alexey Pajitnov, credits the game’s success because it is considered “easy to play but hard to master,” and it does not involve violence or other bad behavior. Electronic Arts, who holds the exclusive license on mobile devices for Tetris, hopes to see the franchise continue to grow. Read more…

Her Interactive, the designer, developer and publisher of the best-selling Nancy Drew® PC adventure game series, and SEGA® of America today announced that Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek is currently available for the Wii™ home video game system.  This release marks the first time that the award winning series has ventured outside the PC platform and onto a major home console system, the incredibly successful Wii.  By incorporating new gameplay mechanics that make the most of the Wii controls, Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek delivers a familiar yet fresh gameplay experience that can be enjoyed by the whole family in the comfort of their living room.

“We’ve been successfully developing and marketing to the core casual game player – females – for years, and it is exciting to extend our brand further into the mainstream with its first console launch,” said Megan Gaiser, President and CEO of Her Interactive Inc.  “We are thrilled to partner with Sega to bring the Nancy Drew franchise to the widely adopted Wii system.”

“We are delighted to work with HER Interactive to focus on the more casual female gamer and bring such an iconic character to the Wii.” Says Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America. “The successful Nancy Drew series on PC, and now on Wii, has demonstrated an amazing ability to bring books to life and tap into some great memories for gamers of all ages.”

In Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, players find Nancy far from home in the middle of the Canadian Rockies where she is investigating several suspicious accidents that have occurred at Chantal’s normally cozy Icicle Creek Lodge.  To make matters worse, an eerie wolf’s howl in the distance is haunting the guests at night, causing Nancy to wonder if the accidents and the mysterious wolf are connected.

Assuming the role of Nancy Drew, players embark on a mystery adventure that will tax their deductive reasoning skills as they tackle intricate puzzles and master a variety of gesture-based mini-games with the Wii Remote™.  Additionally, Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek lets players choose either a Junior or Senior Detective level, making it a perfect game for players of all skill levels.

Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek is currently available at retailers nationwide, and from the Her Interactive website for a suggested retail price of $29.95.  More information on Her Interactive and the company’s entire line of exciting Nancy Drew games can be found at www.HerInteractive.com.

From 1Up.com:

Sierra had their shot to make something out of the Jason Bourne movies. Now Electronic Arts is getting their chance at turning the series into as big a hit with gamers as it is with moviegoers.

Eurogamer brings word that Electronic Arts has acquired the game rights to not just the Bourne series, but the entire works of Robert Ludlum. Swedish developer Starbreeze, who have previously brought us excellent shooters like Chronicles of Riddick, will now get a crack at developing a successful Bourne adaptation.

Starbreeze should probably do fine with the Bourne books. And if we’re really lucky, they’ll look into making a few other games based on Robert Ludlum books. We’ve heard, for instance, that the Parsifal Mosaic is pretty darn good. Do you have any favorites from Robert Ludlum?

Electronic Arts launched a $2B bid for Take Two, a month or so before the launch of the latest Grand Theft Auto release.  Opportunistic?  You bet.  EA’s offer is about 65% richer than the price that TTWO’s stock was trading, but so far, TTWO is resisting.  The company’s stock shot up in trading today.

I suspect this deal will go through mainly because EA is too rich and powerful to be stopped in its pursuit of the maker of Madden and GTA.   Loo, they even have a new, dedicated website for it.

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire - January 7, 2008) -

NEWS FACTS

Strategic interactive agency Blast Radius today announced five of the many key launches that capped off a successful 2007. Blast Radius worked with prominent, global brands including Electronic Arts, Nintendo of America, Jordan Brand and Newell Rubbermaid to develop the strategy, design and technology that support the specific business needs of each group.

– Electronic Arts — The launch of EA Sports March Madness, www.easports.com/marchmadness07/, marked another year filled with successful launches for EA and EA Sports by Blast Radius. One of the outstanding site features is the home page media gallery, which is a combination of screen shots, videos and exclusive information, wrapped into a flexible media player that allows for sharing content quickly and easily into Facebook, Digg and de.li.cious.

– Nintendo of America — Blast Radius worked with Nintendo to launch a completely revamped Nintendo.com, www.nintendo.com. The new site marks a departure from the traditional hard-core gamer experience to one that is aimed at Nintendo’s expansion market, including the alpha moms and dabbler dads. One of the highlights of the new site is Gameguide, an interactive tool that enables users to explore all current and future Nintendo titles and filter them down quickly.

– The Air Jordan Flight Club — Flight Club, www.nike.com/jumpman23/flightclub/, is a members-only commerce site that sells limited edition Jordan footwear and apparel. Developing the design and strategy behind Flight Club, Blast Radius created a premium platform to reward Jordan Brand’s most loyal consumers with access to exclusive products.

– Melo M4 — As part of the Jordan Brand site — Jumpman 23, Melo M4, www.nike.com/jumpman23/m4, celebrates the launch of Carmelo Anthony’s fourth signature shoe. Blast Radius has developed the “Rise” concept as a way to share the story of Anthony’s rise from a rookie to basketball star. Blast Radius achieved this by creating a multi-dimensional environment with full screen video, rich product, and athlete photography.

– Newell Rubbermaid — Amerock, www.amerock.com, rolls out as an additional brand in the Newell Rubbermaid family, which began when Blast Radius launched Sharpie.com earlier in 2007. Because of the great diversity within its product lines, Blast Radius developed an eBusiness platform that enables Newell Rubbermaid to efficiently create additional brand sites on a common platform while each site can be customized with its unique feel and features that are most relevant to the brand’s consumers. Blast Radius has created Amerock.com with a site-wide content management system, an email campaign management tool and a complete site analytics reporting suite. Wrapping up 2007, the December launch of Galleria, www.galleriahardware.com, a sub-brand of Amerock, demonstrates again the platform’s highly scalable and customizable capabilities.

The third installment of the EA SPORTS BIGTM street soccer arcade series will have not one, but three players gracing the cover:

Electronic Arts Inc. announced today that international soccer superstars Ronaldinho, Peter Crouch, and Gennaro Gattuso will be featured world wide on the front packs of FIFA Street 3, the newest iteration of the EA SPORTS BIGTM street soccer arcade series.

Ronaldinho, the cover athlete on the original FIFA Street, is a global megastar and the Brazilian International and FC Barcelona midfielders list of accomplishments includes a FIFA World Cup winners medal, the 2004 and 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year, as well as the 2005 European Footballer of the Year award.

Joining Ronaldinho will be Italian World Cup-winning footballer Gennaro Gattuso. The creative midfielder, who plays for A.C. Milan, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League title in the 2002-03 and 2006-07 seasons, continues the tradition of world-class athletes donning the FIFA franchise covers. It is Gattusos first appearance on an EA SPORTS or EA SPORTS BIG cover.

Completing the trio of world class players will be Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch. Liverpools top goal scorer in the 2006-07 season, Crouch has also been a consistent goal scorer for the England national team. He will have his 67 height amplified to compliment his ball-striking and finishing skills to create a new soccer experience.
