DENVER, July 18 /PRNewswire/ — Knowledge Factor announced today that it has launched the first online university that allows any professional or organization whose work may involve organ and tissue donation, including hospitals, blood banks, sheriffs and state and local agencies to collaborate, identify and implement best practices to maximize donation rates. Through a free centralized training site (www.workforce4life.org), organ procurement and tissue banks personnel can access the latest training programs that are focused on government regulations, standards and compliance, and can access breaking news, events and other information in this highly regulated industry. With increased employee procedural knowledge and confidence, OPOs and tissue banks expect to reduce human errors along the chain from donors to recipients, thereby saving more lives.

“By leveraging Knowledge Factor’s Workforce4Life University, we will have a much easier time accessing all important organ donor regulations and training in one place at one time,” said Amy Iveson, Vice President Organ Procurement Operations, Donar Alliance. “The University will provide us with the best tools and knowledge professionals need to perform their work confidently and competently, which is needed to reduce the risk of losing donors due to human error. This is a wonderful service to organ and tissue recovery agencies, and to recipients who are counting on us to have the right knowledge to change their lives.”

Knowledge Factor’s Workforce4Life University allows OPOs to participate in available training courses such as “Tissue Donor Eligibility” and “Organ Donor Process”; view upcoming courses in development; watch OPO demos; link to partner websites; read customer testimonials; and submit additional training needs and recommendations.

Approximately 95,000 men, women and children are waiting for organs for transplantation in the United States. Thousands more are awaiting tissue donation for transplantation. A single organ donor can save up to eight lives. One tissue donor can save or improve the quality of life for up to 50 people. Each year, more than 6,000 people die in the United States waiting for organ transplants.

“We are very proud to offer the industry’s first tissue and organ university, which we believe will directly assist us in raising organ and tissue donation rates to four per donor — a critical milestone in an industry with limited donations, resources and funds,” said Mark Dreher, Chief Executive Officer of Knowledge Factor. “Not only are we increasing donation rates, but we are aggressively working to improve the performance and reputation of an industry whose services are vital to the lives of thousands, but which has suffered from more than its share of questionable publicity in the past due mostly to human error. That’s a problem that can be fixed, and this is our attempt to help fix it.”
