Calgary ships Alex Tanguay + 138th pick for 25th overall pick this year and the 2nd round pick in 2009.

Net-net, this is a good deal for the Habs… who will start their 100th season.

Do you agree with this?  ESPN ranks fans’ happiness across a plethora of factors and variables and has the Indianapolis Colts’ fans of the NFL as #1, with the Habs’ fans coming in at 73rd.

Do you agree, disagree, see them all here.

Worth noting that the last time the Canadiens rode a rookie goalie in the playoffs, it was 1986 with Patrick Roy.  Incidentally, in 1985, Roy had won the Calder Cup with the farm team.  The 1985-86 Habs squad had a handful of players who were a part of the 1985 Calder team squad, in addition to Roy, there was Gaston Gingras, Serge Boisvert, etc.

This year, the Canadiens have a number of players on the squad who were part of the victorious 2007 Calder cup winning Hamilton Bulldogs team, including - you guessed it - goaltender Carey Price, as well as Maxim Lapierre, Ryan O’Byrne…  worth noting that Sergei Kostitsyn was with the London Knights of the OHL and was no slouch, according to Wikipedia:

The Montreal Canadiens returned Kostitsyn to London for the 2006-07 season. Upon his return, he was placed on a line with young superstars Patrick Kane and Sam Gagner. For his efforts, he was named an alternate captain. Kostitsyn finished third in OHL and CHL scoring behind teammate Patrick Kane and Oshawa’s John Tavares, tallying 40 goals and 131 points in only 59 games. His 91 assists broke the London Knights franchise record of 89 set in 1972-73 by Dennis Ververgaart.

Other players technically with Montreal now that were part of the Calder Cup run include: Matt D’Agostini, Mikhail Grabovski and Kyle Chipchura.

Our Father, Who Art in Bell Center,

Hockey be thy Name.

Thy will be Done, the Cup be Won

On Ice, as well as in the Stands.

Give us this day our Hockey Sticks

And Forgive us our Penalties

As we Forgive those who Cross-Check against us.

Lead us not into Elimination

But Deliver us to Victory.

In the name of the Fans,

Lord Stanley and the Holy Habs.

Amen.

Amen indeed!

At the risk of jumping back on the bandwagon:

1986 Stanley Cup run ran through NY Rangers.

1993 Stanley Cup run ran through NY Islanders.

I don’t know who will win between Pens and Rangers… but if Montreal does advance, I am hoping they play against the Rangers…
