Nada Surf is a band that somehow survived the one hit wonder curse. They were all over MTV in the mid nineties with the song “Popular” and, as is often the case, the song was not a great representation of their sound as a band, and they never made an impact again on the charts. Thousands of bands have had the same thing happen, but not many perservere and continue to release critically acclaimed, quality indie rock records that float under the mainstream radar as Nada Surf have. 2008 will see them release their 5th LP Lucky and the lead off single is called “See These Bones”. The song is a great representation of the sound that this band has grown into and features strong lyrics, up front acoustic guitar and even subtle strings in the chorus. This is a band that got popular for the wrong reasons, but should have stayed there for the right reasons. Check them out again if you haven’t already:
