Push Play is an edgy pop rock band coming to the scene first on Long Island and reaching as far as the Midwest in cities such as Menomonee Falls, WI, and Chicago, Illinois and as far as Boston, MA. Comprised of 4 young men, this talented group was named Best Band on Long Island by the Long Island Press. Their debut album “Deserted”, released last December, represents all of their own material. Through MySpace, their music has reached over 44,000 fans across the globe. The “Deserted” iTunes release stayed on the top 100 for the first 2 weeks, which is unheard of by any unsigned band that had not begun touring outside the tri-state area.
Formed in 2001, this rock quartet consists of CJ Baran, lead singer, rhythm guitarist and keyboards, Steve Scarola, lead guitarist and key boards, Nick Deturris, bass, and Derek Ries, drummer.
The Soundmojo interview with the band below…
1. Which new or established artists that are in the spotlight do you dream
of working with?
We would love to work with Chris Martin of Coldplay.
2. What was it like performing a sold out show at an acclaimed venue in New York City like Irving Plaza?
It was the most phenomenal feeling! Nobody thought we could do it because we’re an unsigned band.
3. How was Push Play formed?
Cj and nick were in a band called Kaution and they were looking for a drummer and lead guitarist and found both steve and derek and started Push Play!
4. I saw that you were announced Best Male Newcomer by Pop Star Magazine. What was the first thing you did when you heard this great news?
We were in the middle of a practice session when our manager told us ad we stopped and high fived each other!! It’s always a great feeling to be recognized.
5. The tracks on your album “Deserted” are all relatively fun and upbeat. Where do you find inspiration for your songs?
Every day events, girls, relationships!
6. Is this the first full album you¹ve recorded in the studio? When did you all start playing instruments?
Yes, but we did an EP the summer before. We all sarted playing instruments around 10,11 except for derek who started at 8!
7. Was there a particular message behind the album name?
Yes, but it meant something different to each of us and is kind of personal!
8.To be answered separately by each of youŠ What song on the album is your
favorite, and why?
CJ: There She Goes Again: it epitomizes many of the girls that I’ve had relationships with.
STEVE: Situation: I just love the beachiness of it.
NICK: Starlite Addiction: it just heps me up and is a real feel good song.
DEREK: The Life: we love the song as a band and feel its intensity! The crowd loves it as well!
9. What should fans expect when they come to see you live?
Fans can expect a SHOW! It’s not only about the music! We try to engage fans and we feed off of their energy. We try to make it one big party.
