Randy Castillo was a member of his high school marching band and played trumpet in his first band that his father was also a member of.  In the late 1970’s, he formed his first group called the Wumblies. 

In 1981, he moved to LA and joined a struggling band called The Motels who were touring with The Cars.  In 1984, he was hired to play drums for Lita Ford.  She introduced him to her boyfriend Nikki Sixx and his bandmate Tommy Lee.  A short time later, Lee called Castillo informing him that Ozzy Osbourne was looking for a drummer.  A couple months later, he was hired and stayed with Ozzy for 10 years. 

In 1999, when Lee left Motley Crue, Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife, called Castillo and told him about the opening.  He got the gig, sans audition. 

While performing with his side project Azul, Randy became ill.  After the gig, he went to the hospital where he collapsed.  It was discovered that an ulcer had ruptured and they performed life-saving emergency surgery.  While recovering, he discovered a small lump on his jaw.  He sought treatment after it grew larger.  He was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer which is not fatal if caught early. 

Castillo lost his battle with cancer on March 26, 2002.
