The History of Gin

in: hosted by Rebecca Brayton

The History of Gin Originating in the Netherlands in the 17th century, gin was first sold in pharmacies as a medicine to calm stomach problems. Eventually finding its way to the poorer classes of British society, the quality and status of this spirit ultimately improved. Today, gin is an important ingredient in a variety of popular cocktails, including gin and tonic, and the gin martini. Gin is distilled with juniper berries, which gives the spirit its primary flavoring. In this video, WatchMojo.com speaks with Hendrick’s gin brand ambassador Xavier Padovani at Montreal’s historic Mount Stephen Club to learn more about the history of gin.
