I came across a CNN article on yet another online video company, this one called Gotuit. To read the article, click here.
The landscape for online video companies is a cluttered one. There are:
1- content management platform technology companies (Brightcove)
2- advertising creation and management companies (Klipmart)
3- content aggregation and distribution (ROO)
4- video hosting and sharing (YouTube)
5- content producers (ManiaTV, our own WatchMojo.com)
What sets apart Gotuit is that it only features professional content, and no user generated content.
I think user generated content is great for entertainment, and over time, let’s face it, some user generated content will become professionally-generated content by users. The key point I think that Gotuit is trying to make, I believe, is to send a signal to advertisers that there shall not be any crap on their site. Of course, that assumes that most of the music videos, film trailers and what not are not crap.
Jokes aside, I wish them luck, they are indeed right when they stats that:
“This is premium content coupled with a premium viewing experience,” said Patrick Donovan, vice president of product management. “It combines the best of TV with the control of the Web.”
