Their aspirations in becoming and building a network is an extension of the content delivery services they offer.
What they announced today that is new is the consumer destination, which I think is a fantastic idea. They have the content, they have the relationships, they see what people like and what gets viewed, they are now basically trying to develop a legit YouTube system (without the emphasis on social networking and rather, the video content) with an editorial approach.
It will be interesting to see what happens: there is an inherent conflict here. How do you:
- convince content producers to use your platform?
- embrace your ad network? and
- let you use that content on your site to sell ads and develop a consumer audience?
Interesting to see how things unfold.
