Google invests in a Chinese video site that allows users to download video off the Web. Yeah, that sounds very legal right there. I guess if they can’t beat them (YouTube in US), they’ll join ‘em in China. If YouTube was illegal because it allowed people to upload video to the Web, how bad is Shenzhen Xunlei Network Technology Ltd. if it allows folks to download video off the Web.
That’s just nutty. And the fact that Google is investing in Shenzhen Xunlei Network Technology Ltd. is nuttier. Of course, maybe I am missing something.
Of note: while the US has (as of August 2006) an Internet user population was 207 million, China is home to 123 million Internet users at the end of June, second only to the U.S. The world’s most-populous nation may surpass the U.S. as the biggest Internet market by users within the next two years, according to William Bao Bean, an analyst at Deutsche Securities Ltd. in Hong Kong.
Maybe that’s why Asia is set to have an ad market online of $110 billion by 2010 - driven mainly by China - while the US will have an ad market online of $25 - 32 billion.
