So Yahoo! is answering Google in domain specific search.
Just over two years ago, our team used Yahoo! to build a domain-specific, contextual, vertical search engine. Eventually we moved away from Yahoo! and used an open source search engine software to build our own index and crawler.
In between, Google launched Co-Op. I wrote some good and bad things about it. See below.
What is really shocking, and should speak volumes about Yahoo!’s pace of innovation is that Yahoo! knew as far back as Spring of 2005 about this, and it took them two years to launch it. Two years after I (amongst others, I am sure) approached them with the idea, and over six months after Google launched Co-Op.
I still have my doubts about these mass market search engines trying to offer any niche products.
