] HipMojo.com » Google to MSFT: Powerpoint, That’s Ours, Too

This weekend, I wrote quite a bit on DCLK’s acquisition by Google, questioning the price paid, the potential risks, the repercussions for DCLK’s competitors, the losers in the deal as well as MSFT’s reaction.

I did question the wisdom of the deal and mainly, the gaga-ness of some who felt that this would help Google make inroads in the media business, arguing: saying that Doubleclick is in the media business is akin to saying that Microsoft is really in with ad agencies because ad agencies use Powerpoint in their client pitches.

Apparently, Google wants to change that, too.  This isn’t going to shock anyone, but still…

From the Official Google Blog:

Well, we tried to keep it a secret as long as we could, but to be honest, we’ve been dying to tell you about the bun we’ve got in the oven. We’ll soon be welcoming a new addition to the Google Docs & Spreadsheets family: presentations.

Redmond can’t be pleased about that, either.

Seems like Google is doing a fine job of defending its own businesses while slowly encroaching on MS’s properties. Anytime Microsoft is interested in buying/partnering with a company that competes with Google, Google steps in and uses its wealth to block it.
