Apparently, iPhone had a 1M milestone target for unit sales of its iPhone.  Even though it sold anywhere from 200,000 to 700,000 units (all right, how useless are analysts looking right now? more on that below), it missed its mark by quite a bit:

“There’s a lot of rejoicing at Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile,” says IAG Research’s Roger Entner. “By not selling out, it is still a solid success, but it also proved that not everyone in the country is willing to drop $600 on a new phone.”

“For the other carriers, it’s not a game changer. It’s business as usual again,” says Entner.

Sometimes, you can’t let your hubris get in the way of financial management Steve!

Anyway, more on analysts being so not, well, not “in sync” check out this list compiled by Valleywag:

- American Technology Research’s Shaw Wu: 250,000 units

- Goldman Sachs’ David Bailey: 700,000 units

- JP Morgan Securities’ Bill Shope: 312,000 units

- Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster: 500,000 units

- Global Equity Rsearch’s Trip Crowley: 525,000 units.

Hmm… this is historical data, right?  Makes me want to sell all of my stock (these are the same brain team that does estimates of company earnings, right?) and short these firms in particular.
