One of my favorite sites covering the new media space in general and the social networking segment in particular, Mashable.com, is one of the first sites to pick up our release and relaunch.
Read Kristen Nicole’s piece here.
I’m grateful for the couple of suggestions she makes in her post.
For one, she suggests that we improve site navigation and second, that we allow users to create personalized playlists etc.
She’s 100% right on both points, but I wonder what she would have said about our old layout, it was getting pretty chaotic!
We’re actually adding a lot of little things to help users find our massive collection of original video clips… and many of which will be rolled out as we speak / over the next few days. We really wanted to get this out to get feedback etc. instead of playing with it privately.
Her second point is prophetic in that you will see a User Name and Password sign-in area at the top… and might wonder what that is all about. So here goes:
The user accounts:
* right now are for users of StreetMojo.com, one of my favorite applications/properties in all of Mojo Supreme’s massive network… basically, it’s an application that helps consumers looking for free contests find marketer-submitted sweepstakes based on their pre-selected category-based interests.
* but in less than 1 month we will also allow WatchMojo.com viewers sign up and create a My.Yahoo experience so they can set Preferences to:
- get videos based on categories they choose, so say I choose to ONLY get video games, music and cars, for example, but you can select to get MAINLY video games, music and cars, but also travel and health, but on a lesser frequency. The algorithm that does that is pretty simple and is ready, in fact, it’s the same that I use as site administrator… we’re holding off on it simply to add more tweaks to site navigation and usability. The main problem with our site, admittedly, is that we have way too much content and it’s updated way too frequently… so we need to find that secret sweet spot.
One idea I am contemplating, is to break up WatchMojo.com is 17 smaller niche sites… along the 17 categories we produce videos on.
Anyway, another you will be able to do is
- Set preferences to get videos in English, French, Spanish etc. from the clips we’ve produced. Right now our content is 95% English, 5% Spanish and French but over time it will be 75% English and 25% others… so on a library of 4,000 clips and more, the non-English clips are sizable enough to be able to differentiate.
As per playlists, you can in fact create playlists for a given visit without signing up, but if you sign up you can save those preferences and really create a differentiated, personalized experience.
Since WatchMojo.com is just one unit of Mojo Supreme, users will in fact be able to get as much or as little content on the categories they care about.
More announcements and developments to come. And please, send the feedback and comments to ash@mojosupreme.com.
