] HipMojo.com » Build Morale The Easy Way

One of the more frequent questions I got ask yesterday when my wife and I hosted our family at home was “when are you going back to the office”. I actually do a bit of working throughout the holidays, but we actually shut down the office from last Friday until next Tuesday. Sometimes big and small companies ask employees to come in the couple of working days between Christmas and the New Year, so this year, a lot of people go to work on Thursday and Friday.

I ask: why? Who actually really works on those two days? People haul their derrieres to work, pretend to work and end up resenting their employer for asking them to fake work on faux working days. Employers do so many things in the year to build up morale, only to sink it down a hole by asking staff to work when everyone needs to take a break.

I like to think we have a great working environment at work, but no matter what I think, everyone prefers to have a few more days off. Frankly, any boss that asks their employees to go in to the office between Christmas and New Year is manifesting a sign of weakness and a desire to exert control on workers, “see this leash, it’s tight, it’s on you, and you can’t get too far away.”

Happy festivus people!
