War is the accelerator of history, or so said Lenin… and this war between writers and media companies is only going to accelerate the shrinking of the TV business.

According to WSJ, via AlleyInsider:

NBC was charging $450,000 to $500,000 for a 30-second ad spot during the Golden Globes, when it was still a three-plus hour live star-studded gala. GM alone had planned to spend $2 million during this year’s Globes. How much will advertisers be willing to pay for a one-hour press conference with no stars?

You are aware that ad agencies make money when they spend money, right?  So ad agencies will find a place to spend that money come hell or high water… and the best place to spend it, you guessed it, is online.  This is actually why the strike will help online advertising… but I digress.  The longer this goes on, maybe the strike (greed, regardless of who’s greed) will kill TV.  If I was News Corp., CBS, Walt Disney, NBC etc., I’d be going back to the drawing board and doing some long term planning.
