] HipMojo.com » Seeing Growth From the Outside In: Special Ops Media Acquired by LBI

Special Ops Media was one of the many agencies I worked with at my old gig. I was in charge of ad sales but also worked with companies on promotions etc. The agency was founded in 2002 (I had started my gig in September 2000) by Jason Klein and Christian Anthony.

It was interesting to see the company grow, both in terms of mandates, employees and billings (obviously those things go together).  The point is: I doubt they had any outside funding; it was bootstrapped or at the very least grown progressively.

Their client roster includes blue chips Coca-Cola, MTV, NBC Universal, AMC, The Sundance Channel, Lionsgate Entertainment, Paramount, Universal Music Group, and others

It was acquired by LBI for $20-$45M, depending on performance. Good for them! Worth noting the company’s metrics: Over 2007 SOM has gross billings of of $22.3 million, net sales of $10.1 million and EBITDA of $4.0 million. The agency today has 64 employees.
