10-Serial-Killer-Secrets-That-Will-Never-Be-Revealed

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re looking at secrets about serial killers that will probably never get uncovered.

Where Are Dean Corll's Victims Buried?

Who can murder dozens of young men and bury several of them in unknown locations? Apparently, the Candy Man. Dean Corll – who is sometimes called “the Candy Man” because he once sold candy – was behind a series of heinous killings in the early 1970s, referred to as the Houston Mass Murders. In executing these crimes, Corll was assisted by two teenagers named David Owen Brooks and Elmer Wayne Henley. The spree came to an end after Henley killed Corll and confessed everything to the police. While 28 of Corll’s victims are officially accounted for, there’s a possibility that several more are buried in undisclosed locations. However, as these murders happened so long ago, discovering any additional bodies may be unlikely.

Is There Really a Manchester Pusher?

The “Manchester Pusher” story lies somewhere between forensic hypothesis and urban legend. Since around 2007, numerous bodies have been found in the waterways of Greater Manchester in England. Some believe these deaths are mere coincidences, but others suspect foul play, speculating that an anonymous individual is responsible for pushing people into the canals. Police have consistently attempted to put these ideas to rest, attributing the tragedies to accidental falls or natural causes. But a few key instances – such as a cyclist who allegedly encountered the Pusher in 2018 – hint at the existence of a real perpetrator. In any case, the “Manchester Pusher” concept remains a controversial and largely speculative topic.

Why Did the Bible Belt Strangler Target Redheads?

The Redhead murders spanned from the late ‘70s to the early ‘90s. The case remains unsolved, but a couple of factors have linked the victims. Firstly, the majority of the killings took place in the so-called “Bible Belt,” which has earned the suspect the “Bible Belt Strangler” moniker. But even more notable is that almost all of the murdered women had red, if not reddish, hair. This pattern raises intriguing questions: if these incidents are indeed connected, why did the Bible Belt Strangler specifically go after red-haired women? Was it mere coincidence? Or was the Strangler prejudiced against red-haired people? It’s very likely we may never know.

Did the Monster of the Mangones Drink Blood?

The story of the Monster of the Mangones is extremely mysterious, and many key points about the killings are yet unknown. But there is a creepy issue that no one can ignore: Was this “Monster” a real-life vampire, or maybe a sufferer of Renfield's syndrome, a condition marked by a thirst for blood? Approximately 38 associated murders took place in Cali, Colombia in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and they were pretty grisly. In fact, it’s been said that the killer, whose identity was never determined, liked to extract and drink his victims’ blood. If that’s true, ew. For a fictionalized version of the Monster’s tale, check out the 1982 horror film “Pura Sangre.”

Who (If Anyone) Was the Paraquat Murderer?

In 1985, a strange pattern of poisonings affected central and western Japan. At least 12 people died and over 30 more became ill when drinks left in or near vending machines were laced with paraquat, a highly toxic herbicide. Was this a pattern of unfortunate accidents, or did a threatening figure in the shadows plot the entire thing? Despite extensive investigations, police could not figure out why these deaths happened, how they happened, or who may have been behind them. If there was indeed a perpetrator, they were never identified, and no arrests were made.

Did the Atlanta Ripper Have Racial Motives?

Around the turn of the 20th century, the murders of 15 women plunged Georgia’s capital into a state of terror. The gory nature of the killings and the fact that all the victims were Black women led many to suspect that the murders were connected. Given the racial tension of the era, some wonder if prejudice inspired the so-named “Atlanta Ripper.” Incidentally, one witness claimed to have caught a glimpse of the killer and described him as Black, casting doubt on the racism theory. Either way, since investigators have been stumped on this one for over a century, we may never know whether racism had a role in the Ripper’s choice of victims.

Who Burned Down the Gein House?

An unsettling obsession with his mother and a penchant for building furniture out of dead bodies have made Ed Gein one of the most disturbing serial killers ever. Gein’s eccentricities have inspired many a fictional villain, from “Psycho”’s Norman Bates to Leatherface from “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.” Anyone who’s heard Gein’s story knows that his home – a secluded Wisconsin farmhouse – was full of dark paraphernalia that he fashioned himself. A few months after his arrest, the house mysteriously caught on fire, mere days before his possessions were set to be auctioned off. Although some have blamed a nearby garbage fire, many believe the property was destroyed by arson. But, of course, we’ll never know for sure.

Did Jeffrey Dahmer's Father Also Have Dark Impulses?

Sometimes called the Milwaukee Monster, Jeffrey Dahmer was infamous for his gruesome acts – not to mention unusual “tastes.” There’s some debate as to whether or not Dahmer’s father, Lionel, had a hand in his son’s actions – not in the crimes themselves, but perhaps in the development of his psyche. In his 1994 memoir titled “A Father’s Story,” Lionel admits to having harbored his own thoughts about hurting others. That said, Lionel – who died in 2023 – would never definitively learn whether he shared any troubling fantasies with Dahmer. Moreover, since Lionel is not known to have acted on these thoughts, it’s unclear just how much they could have influenced his son’s actions.

The Zodiac Killer’s Codes

The case of the elusive Zodiac Killer has baffled law enforcement for over 50 years. Despite extensive media coverage, nobody is sure of who he is, his true number of victims, and numerous other factors. Central to the crimes are a series of letters allegedly written by the killer. In these notes, he not only taunted the investigators for failing to apprehend him, but included complex cryptograms that he claims reveal his identity. Two of the ciphers were cracked in 1969 and 2020 respectively, but the other two have yet to be uncovered. Do these remaining clues point to the truth, or are they simply meant to prolong this wild goose chase? Your guess is as good as ours.

Ted Bundy’s Actual Kill Count

Ted Bundy: the ultimate lady killer. (Literally.) Bundy is often counted among the coldest and most heartless murderers in American history; in fact, he may be the first serial killer you think of when you hear the term. But despite his notoriety, Bundy’s exact body count has never been determined. Although he confessed to killing around 30 women, he implied on multiple occasions that the number was a lot higher. Much like the Zodiac Killer, Bundy seemed to enjoy confusing the police and keeping them guessing as to the full scope of his misdeeds. We may never be sure of his kill count, but one thing is certain: Bundy’s deceit was unparalleled.
