So, what is that exactly, and how could it potentially improve your workouts, study sessions or recovery time? Well, that’s what we’re here to find out. They’re Essentially Energy Drinks
We know, that might sound obvious. But we wanted to make it clear that Celsius is, in essence, still an energy drink brand, albeit with a twist... which we will get to in a moment. Its core product catalogue consists of several different products, but each and every one of them is still aimed at those with active lifestyles looking for a boost. In other words, there’s a reason it says “Performance Energy” on the can. Like other energy drinks, the claimed benefits of Celsius drinks rely on you consuming them, and then your body’s physical activity maximising those benefits.
They’re Ostensibly Made With Healthier Stuff
This is where Celsius starts setting itself apart, or as the company puts it, quote, “Celsius stands out against other brands because it’s made with healthier ingredients”. First off, their energy drinks contain no sugar, no aspartame, no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial preservatives or flavors. They’re also gluten -free, kosher, and non-GMO. So what does go into their drinks? Well, it’s what Celsius calls its MetaPlus blend, which mainly consists of guarana seed and green tea extract, ginger root, seven essential vitamins and EGCG — or epigallocatechin gallate as it’s commonly known - a plant compound that’s claimed to boost your metabolism.
There's Some Science That Apparently Backs Up the Benefits
Sure, the healthy stuff we mentioned could just be a bunch of buzzwords, right? Yep. As with much nutrition science, health benefits are often highly disputed by experts. But for the record, Celsius claims to have the science to back it up. Six different university studies were carried out on Celsius by U.S. accredited scientific research facilities. And the keywords that jump out from the scientific peer-reviewed publications is that Celsius has “thermogenic properties”. In a nutshell, that means that Celsius energy drinks apparently increase metabolism and therefore help you burn more calories and fat. And the studies also claim to show that the drinks help increase endurance and provide greater resistance to fatigue. And a big part of that is thanks to the aforementioned MetaPlus blend contained within the drinks, which helps trigger thermogenesis.
There Are a Ton of Different Types and Flavors
So Celsius officially offers five different types of fitness drink, each with a bunch of different available flavors, and each specifically aimed at a certain stage, or type, of workout routine. First off, there’s Celsius, or Celsius original, if you will. This is kind of like the best-of album of their entire range, aimed at offering a boost of energy as well as metabolic qualities. You then have two very similar versions of that original Celsius drink with Celsius-Stevia and Celsius On-The-Go. Celsius-Stevia is a non-fizzy version of the original that is naturally sweetened with Stevia and caffeinated with green coffee bean extract. Celsius On-The-Go is again another version of the original Celsius energy drink, only it comes in a powdered packet form for easy portability. The other two drinks in the range are Celsius Heat and Celsius BCAA. In essence, Celsius Heat is purely geared towards performance, for when you’re about to tackle a strenuous workout or sporting activity, whereas Celsius BCAA is sort of the opposite, as it's electrolyte-packed formula is focused on rehydration and recovery. Also, as previously mentioned, most of these drinks come available in a pretty staggering amount of flavors, from Peach Mango Green Tea to Sparkling Cola. So what do you think of Celsius fitness drinks? Do you need a boost of energy after digesting all of that info?
