Nintendo has finally announced it’s new console, the Nintendo Switch! But with details scarce and the rumor mill abuzz, millions of fans are eagerly awaiting the industry giant’s next big release. Welcome to WatchMojo News, the series from WatchMojo.com where we look at stories that should be on your radar. In this installment, we’re counting down everything you need to know know about the Nintendo NX – ‘scuse me, I mean the Nintendo Switch!
With the announcement of the Switch, one of the longstanding and most drastic rumours was confirmed! The switch will be a table-top-console-handheld hybrid! Wow, trying saying that five times fast. Versatility was the main point driven home by the trailer, which featured gamers playing at home on a tv screen, and then instantly removing the console’s central piece from a docking unit to turn it into a handheld device that they take with them on the go. The portable console also features removable grips, a stand, and clearly brags “play-anywhere” capabilities. The trailer also confirms a few games for the console, including what looks like their new Zelda Title “Breath of the Wild”, the re-mastered version of Skyrim (Woohoo for third parties!) and yes, maybe even a new Mario game!
Prior to the release of the console’s announcement trailer on October 20, 2016, very little was known about the new system, and that only dumped more fuel on the rumour fire. If you thought that all your questions were to be answered in the three and a half minute trailer, sorry, your princess is in another castle. Although leaks have suggested one model will feature a 32 Gb hard drive and will have an MRSP of between $299 and $399, we still don’t have much in the way of confirmed data on internal specs. The trailer also made a point of showing off the consoles’ connectivity, seemingly showcasing multiple players playing on a single mobile handheld console – with multiple consoles accommodating even more. But, until we find out what’s under the hood and how all of this will work, the looks on the faces of those hip young millennials in the trailer is all we have to go on for now.
Succeeding the Wii U is no simple task, but Nintendo seems ready to stomp that goomba. The last moments of the trailer showed the switch in an E-sports arena, which would indicate rather lofty ambitions for Nintendo – Splatoon is probably not the first game you think of when it comes to e-sports. The console clearly aims to cater to a wide range of gamers, and given the markets competition, we’re anxious to see how it will be received. Die hard Nintendo fans and casual gamers alike are anxiously waiting for more info on the new console, and with the March 2017 release window a fair ways down the road, you can bet your gold coins that there’s plenty to discover between now and the release date.
