The Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre
Found in downtown Dallas’ Arts District, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre is a ground-breaking theatre design. Because it is 12-storeys high, this structure differs from more traditional theater models by working upwards instead of sideways. On the outside, it is a beautifully modern building located near some of the most impressive and remarkable landmarks in Dallas.
The Meyerson Symphony Center
Also in the Arts District is the Meyerson Symphony Center. This world-class building was designed by I.M. Pei, and is an impressive structure with some fascinating and elegant architectural details. It boasts rounded glass features that contrast the sharper lines of the building. This is considered one of the greatest concert halls in the world, and gives Dallas a reputation as a centre for culture.
The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House
The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House is located in the Arts District, as well, and is a modern version of an opera house. The building includes prominent glass architectural features and a huge solar canopy that takes advantage of the sunny Dallas weather. There is also an outdoor terrace that welcomes visitors as they arrive at the opera house.
The American Airlines Center
Opened in 2001, the American Airlines Center is one of the premier sports venues in the city. It is located near the downtown core, in the Victory Park region, and actually is part of a 72-acre development complex in that area. Built to blend technology with design, the structure’s exterior is covered with limestone and granite, and features iconic curve detailing and a 150,000 square foot roof that is only supported at its corners.
Cowboys Stadium
Another important sports venue in the city is Cowboys Stadium. This venue is another technical marvel, and features one of the world’s largest retractable roofs.
