Stockholm showcases typical, distinct Scandinavian culture. More modern elements of this culture include beautiful glass art and contemporary furniture, but the city also features more ancient and traditional cultural elements, as well.

Nationalmuseum


Stockholm’s Nationalmuseum, otherwise known as the National Museum of Fine Arts, is one of the most popular art institutes in the country. The exterior of the building was designed to emulate the Renaissance architecture of northern Italy, and it sits grandly on the waterfront.

The Nordic Museum


The Nordic Museum is found on Djurgården, and it tells the story of the country’s people since the sixteenth century. The building itself is also an impressive piece of architecture, and one of the largest non-church buildings in the country.

The Vasa Museum


Meanwhile, the Vasa Museum showcases the region’s rich maritime history both inside and out.

The Katarina Church


One of the most important churches in the country is the fantastic Katarina Church. This structure has been rebuilt more than once, and today it is back to its former glory. It is a noticeable shape on the skyline of the Södermalm district where it is located, and it is one architectural example of the combination of old and new.

The Riddarholmen Church


Meanwhile, the Riddarholmen Church is the final resting place for a number of Swedish monarchs, and is the last enduring abbey of the medieval period. Its Baroque architecture is typical of medieval buildings, and it is a great place for tourists to visit during summer months.

The Royal Swedish Opera House


The Royal Swedish Opera House is found in the middle of the city, and is the home to both the national ballet and opera. This structure is significant within the city for both its cultural impact and its beauty.

Gamla Stan


No visit to Stockholm would be complete without a visit to the culturally and historically significant Gamla Stan, or Old Town. This district features the best of ancient Swedish culture, and is one of the most culturally significant spaces in the city.
