The Dallas Skyline
The Dallas skyline is remarkable for a number of reasons, but most notably the city is known for housing many towering skyscrapers. Aside from those impressive and imposing buildings, this Texas city blends architectural styles from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The modern and postmodern designs give the region a unique flair all its own, and the traditional gothic and neoclassical elements showcase its interesting history.
Bank of American Plaza
One of Dallas’ tallest skyscrapers is Bank of America Plaza, and in fact this is considered a signature building of the city. Found right in the middle of the downtown area, it is 72-storeys and 921 feet of modern architecture. Construction of Bank of America Plaza was finished in 1985, and the finished product boasts art-deco styling. Not only in Bank of America Plaza a significant part of the daytime cityscape, but once the sun sets its silhouette is outlined with green neon lights. This allows the towering structure to stand out even more against the skyline, and highlights the architectural design of the building, as well.
The Renaissance Tower
Just behind the Bank of America building in terms of height, the Renaissance Tower measures 890 feet. Built in 1974, this skyscraper includes an “x” shape across its façade, and at night this structural element is highlighted by a lighting feature. On its roof are five towers that are also brightly lit at night.
The Comerica Bank Tower
The Comerica Bank Tower comes next, and measures 60-storeys with its barrel vault detailing.
Fountain Place
I.M. Pei’s Fountain Place is another impressive structure, and one of the tallest skyscrapers in Dallas. The building is shaped like a prism and is covered with reflective glass. Due to its unique design, the shape of Fountain Place shifts depending on your angle and location in the city. The distinctive diamond form of this building also helps it stand out on the skyline.
