Top 10 Actors That Have Bared All in Movies

Not everyone is willing to let it all hang out on camera, but these are guys sure are! Welcome to MsMojo and today we’re counting down the top 10 Actors Who Have Bared All in Movies.

For this list, we’re focusing on the brave few who were willing to drop trow and stand up to potential scrutiny on the big screen. That means we’re excluding actors who used stand-ins or prosthetics, such as Mark Wahlberg in “Boogie Nights.”

#10: Richard Gere
“American Gigolo” (1980)

Richard Gere was prime silver screen eye-candy in the late eighties and this nude appearance is what helped put him on the map. “American Gigolo” was the first instance of a major Hollywood star showing frontal nudity on screen. The crime drama sees Gere playing a man whose job is to seduce women, and he manages to entice the audience in the process. Not only that, but viewers were treated to an eyeful of Richard’s impressive gear. For such a racy movie, this nude scene is relatively tame – and brief - showing Gere getting out of bed to adjust the blinds, but it still manages to fulfill many a female fantasy.

#9: Jude Law
“The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999)

There’s no denying that Jude Law is one attractive man. He has the suave sensibilities of James Bond, with an icy stare to back it up. That’s why it came as a welcome surprise to many when he went nude for a short scene in “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” in which he plays a hedonistic and wealthy brat. The part of the movie we’re interested in at this point in time is darkly lit, and has Jude’s Dickie Green leaf exiting the bathtub as Matt Damon’s character looks on. Jude would later go on to be named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2004, and we can’t help but think that this scene helped seal the deal.

#8: Viggo Mortensen
“The Indian Runner” (1991)

The Danish American actor we’d all come to know and love as “The Lord of the Rings”’ Aragorn in the early 21st century played a very different kind of man in this early ‘90s crime drama written and directed by Sean Penn. As restless criminal Frank, Mortensen shows both his brother Joe - who also happens to be town deputy sheriff – and audiences, that he isn’t afraid to let it all hang out – while he stands, stumbles and has a cigarette in his mouth. It wouldn’t be the last time he’d be decked out in tattoos and doing full frontal either, as we see itall again during the brutal Turkish bath fight in 2007’s “Eastern Promises.”

#7: Kevin Bacon
“Wild Things” (1998)

Who hasn’t wondered about Kevin Bacon’s manliness? He’s been the inspiration for plenty of 20th century daydreams, with some people even trying to map their degree of separation from him. In “Wild Things”, he plays a straight-shooting detective mixed up in a suspicious rape trial where the pieces don’t quite fit. The two accusers, played by Neve Campbell and Denise Richards, are suspected to be in league with the defendant in a twisting plot to embezzle a family fortune. But the plot isn’t what you’re here for at this very moment, right?! If you pause the erotic thriller at just the right moment, you can sneak a peek at Kevin’s bacon just as he’s leaving the shower.

#6: Ewan McGregor
“Velvet Goldmine” (1998)

For some actors, going nude on screen isn’t as big of a deal as having to take on other challenges that the roles might present. We’re not saying that Ewan isn’t – gifted - on the contrary, we’re talking about the fact that he’s bared it all on screen in multiple feature films. Although his role in “Trainspotting” was revealing, “Velvet Goldmine” can be considered the cream of this crop, with McGregor playing rock idol Curt Wild, who unzips on stage – to the roaring applause of the audience. Some people just can’t keep their pants on. But hey, if it’s important to the story, who are we to complain?

#5: Harvey Keitel
“Bad Lieutenant” (1992)

It’s a little shocking to see a guy who’s known for his tough-guy roles in such a vulnerable state of undress. Playing a violent, amoral officer, a (very naked) Harvey limps drunk and crying towards the camera in this scene. It’s a major turning point in the film, even making onto the neo-noir crime drama’s poster. Keitel’s performance is powerful, and is made even more impressive by his extraordinary physique, so much so that he nabbed the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.

#4: Gael García Bernal
“Y Tu Mamá También” (2001)

Puberty can be a confusing time for everybody; you’re always hungry, your body is changing, and all you’re really thinking about is sex. And boy is this coming-of-age story drenched in sex. The drama follows Gael García Bernal’s character and his best friend as they take a road trip around their home country of Mexico with a sexy stranger. The steamy subtext keeps you guessing throughout, but only two scenes near the beginning really give us the goods – the shower scene, and the one featuring poolside masturbation.

#3: Jason Segel
“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” (2008)

Jason Segel isn’t quite the same kind of Hollywood heartthrob as some of the other actors on this list. He has more take-home-to-the-family-type good looks. That’s why it came as a surprise when his character drops the towel right before his love interest breaks up with him in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” Sources say that Jason’s mother cried upon seeing his disrobed debut, but we think it was just great – at least for the laughs! Take him back, Sarah, before somebody else does.

#2: Tom Hardy
“Bronson” (2008)

What’s not to love about Tom Hardy? From the perfect lips to the way he can wear a suit, he’s a prime specimen of the male form. This nude scene may not be quite what you’re expecting though. In this fictionalized biographical film, he plays the beefy inmate Charles Bronson, and the scene in question consists of him getting a Vaseline rubdown by a reluctant helper in order to slip from the guard’s grasp. Though it may have been played for laughs, it still allows for a thorough inspection of that beautiful bod we’re more than happy to see.

Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Tom Cruise
“All the Right Moves” (1983)

Michael Pitt
“The Dreamers” (2003)

Mark Ruffalo
“In the Cut” (2003)

Ben Affleck
“Gone Girl” (2014)

Viggo Mortensen
“The Indian Runner” (1991)

#1: Michael Fassbender
“Shame” (2011)

In terms of Hollywood heartthrobs, Michael Fassbender is the icing on the cake. And what a beautiful cake he is. This drama captures the struggle of a sex-addict by following him on his tawdry exploits. In it, we get a full minute, waist-level shot, and an eyeful of Michael's front and back, and it’s pretty clear thathe’d been hitting the gym. In the context of the film, the voyeuristic nature of the camera is meant to inspire a feeling of shame, hence the film’s title - and Michael certainly has enough to leave you blushing here.
