For this list, we’ll be looking at the television’s most evil, nastiest and/or most conniving animated couples of all time.
#10: David & Fox Xanatos
These are two of the smartest and most conniving animated villains ever to grace the small screen. David Xanatos was the wealthy and power hungry businessman who broke the spell that had imprisoned the Gargoyles for 1000 years. However, he did so for his own nefarious benefit. Along the way he met Fox, the former leader of The Pack, and the two married in season two. Together David and Fox schemed and manipulated, all in an effort to control the Gargoyles - utilizing their genius level IQs and martial arts skills to great effect. Both David Xanatos and his wife would later ally with the stone heroes, but their villainous past is not easily forgotten.
#9: Heather & Alejandro
These two evil lovebirds met in season three, aka “Total Drama World Tour”, and tip-toed around their feelings for one another well into “Total Drama All-Stars and Pahkitew Island". From the onset, it was made clear that Heather and Alejandro were the clear-cut villains of this comedic reality show parody. Despite their obvious chemistry, their true goal was always winning the grand prize of $1,000,000 - with Heather memorably quipping, “boys are okay, but a million dollars is way better!" Few characters embodied this show’s title quite like Heather and Alejandro do!
#8: Anti-Cosmo & Anti-Wanda
In season two of this longrunning Nickelodeon series, viewers were introduced to these Anti-Fairies. In the episode “That Old Black Magic”, it was revealed that all fairies have an evil counterpart, opposite in every way from their good natured twins. As such, Anti-Cosmo is an evil, power hungry mastermind, and Anti-Wanda is a happy-go-lucky buffoon. Along with their Anti-Fairy cohorts, Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda are constantly causing problems for humankind, showering bad luck all over their world. In season seven, the duo gave birth to a child, Foop, who served as major antagonist and Poof’s opposite. You’d be wise not to underestimate Foop, as he is just as evil as his Anti-Fairy parents.
#7: The Monarch & Dr. Mrs. The Monarch
The Monarch and his wife, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch (previously referred to as Dr. Girlfriend), have served as the primary antagonists of this Adult Swim show since its inception. Don’t let the butterfly obsession fool you; The Monarch is as evil as they come - despite the illogical nature of his secret lair. Together with Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, whom he married in season two, the supervillain has made it his life’s mission to destroy Thaddeus Venture and the rest of the Venture clan. His deep-seated desire to “arch” Thaddeus is the driving force behind many of his schemes, though he and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch constantly refrain from delivering the killing blow. Hmm, perhaps there’s more to this evil couple than meets the eye...though, probably not.
#6: Destro & Baroness
While there’s no denying their feelings for one another, Destro and Baroness are the one villainous couple on this list that appear less concerned with displays of affection than they are with completing their evil goals. Constantly attempting to solidify their place atop Cobra’s chain of command, particularly Destro, these two undergo dramatic transformations in “G.I. Joe: Renegades”. Still, they remain steadfast in their desire to wreak havoc upon the Joes through whatever means necessary. Along with the equally treacherous, Doctor Mindbender, the trio of evil doers prove formidable opponents throughout what was tragically the only season of this show.
#5: Johnny 13 & Kitty
Are Johnny 13 and Kitty villains? Sure. Are they evil? Meh, not really. Their actions can best be described as annoying, functioning as thorns in the side of our titular hero. Johnny 13 is a manipulative rebel with a womanizing streak. Kitty, on the other hand, knows exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to let Johnny know it. Together, the two of them love nothing more than cruising around, infecting others with bad luck through his shadow and generally being a nuisance to Danny and co. Despite his penchant for flirting, Johnny 13 is madly in love with Kitty and always finds his way back to her. In the end, these two villains show Danny (and viewers) that they’re not nearly as bad as they appear.
#4: Sheldon J. & Karen Plankton
Sheldon and Karen Plankton are textbook schemers. Together they’re engaged in a never ending plot to steal Mr. Krabs’ highly coveted formula for Krabby Patties. As owners of the Chum Bucket - Bikini Bottom’s least successful restaurant - Sheldon and Karen are always on the lookout for ways to improve their financial situation. Their relationship doesn’t make a lot of sense on paper, seeing as how he’s a planktonic copepod and she’s a waterproof supercomputer. However, they’re united in their desire to unseat Mr. Krabs as Bikini Bottom’s best restaurateur. Despite their evil nature, Sheldon and Karen truly care for one another, and in season 12 they, uh, “gave birth” to a son, Chip.
#3: Boris Badenov & Natasha Fatale
This evil couple was wreaking havoc probably long before you were born. Boris and Natasha, the spies from the fictional nation of Pottsylvania, were hellbent on destroying their titular enemies, who they referred to as Moose and Squirrel. They loved nothing more than coming up with an overly complicated scheme - typically involving explosives - that inevitably would blow up in their faces. Literally. Despite their constant failures, the two remained steadfast in their desire to kill Rocky and Bullwinkle, and for that, these villains deserve at least a smidgen of your respect.
2: Zaheer & P'Li
From assassinating the Earth Queen to poisoning Korra, Zaheer’s depravity knows no bounds. As leader of the Red Lotus, Zaheer, along with his girlfriend P’Li, are hellbent on remaking the world in their image. A brutal airbender, who isn’t afraid to use his powers to control, intimidate and even kill those who stand in his way, Zaheer is one villain who isn’t to be taken lightly. P’Li is equally terrifying, using her combustion-bending skills in similarly terrifying ways. Together, these two made for a formidable tandem. Sadly (for Zaheer that is), P’Li was killed in season three.
#1: The Joker & Harley Quinn
At last we arrive at an animated pair of evildoers that need no introduction. Batman’s greatest foe, the Joker is as sick and twisted as his trademark grin. In “Batman: The Animated Series”, he’s given a sidekick and lover in the form of Harley Quinn - who starts off as a psychiatrist interning at Arkham Asylum before ultimately falling prey to the Joker’s demented charms. Their relationship is a strange one, with the Joker doubling up on each nicety with an act of emotional or physical cruelty. Despite this, she always comes crawling back to him and the two proceed to hatch a diabolical plot to kill Batman, Commissioner Gordon, or some other unfortunate Gothamite. In the pantheon of animated villainous couples, these two stand alone.
