Come for the films, stay for the dresses. Welcome to MsMojo and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Best Dressed Celebrities at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
For this list, we’re taking a look at the boldest and most alluring fashion choices at the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival.
#10: Julianne Moore
This Oscar-winner sported a couple different looks at Cannes this year. For the premiere of the Egyptian comedy “Yomeddine,” Moore donned a black Saint Laurent gown that featured an asymmetrical cut, giving the dress a unique silhouette almost like a mountain. Her ensemble came complete with a Chopard necklace that could almost be mistaken for the Heart of the Ocean. Moore also showed off her fun side at the festival, sporting a striking fringe dress when she attended the Chopard Gentleman’s Night. Moore wore her most elegant outfit to the “Everybody Knows” screening, showing up in a fiery Givenchy Haute Couture piece. This blazing cape dress was perfectly complemented by Moore’s signature red hair, not to mention the red carpet.
#9: Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger never fails to impress when it comes to fashion and beauty. As a former recipient of the coveted Chopard Trophy, Kruger returned to Cannes this year to award the same prize to Elizabeth Debicki and Joe Alwyn. She paraded in a flowing purple Prada dress with beaded shoulders. What earns Kruger a spot on this list, however, is the ravishing Armani Privé gown she wore to the “Sink or Swim” premiere. Draped in light blue, Kruger was the epitome of Hollywood glamor. The individual details, from the one strap to the reveal of a silver bodice, made the outfit more modern, but Kruger’s waves, and the subtle glimmer of her silver accessories made the look timeless.
#8: Kristen Stewart
Jury member Kristen Stewart wore a Chanel mini dress to the “BlacKkKlansman” screening, although it was her Christian Louboutin high heels that made the biggest statement, as the actress removed them on the red carpet. The young actress rocked various styles at Cannes, from a powder blue Chanel suit that felt equally casual and glamorous, to a striped dress at the amfAR Gala. Her ensemble for the “Knife + Heart” premiere was rocker chic, with a slicked forward ‘do, and shiny black trousers with a long blazer. In any case, Stewart’s looks always appeared bold, fierce, and powerful. However, her gown for the last night was much softer, with subtle gold details.
#7: Irina Shayk
This Russian model stunned onlookers more than once at Cannes 2018. The black gown she wore to the “Yomeddine” screening was nothing short of fabulous, although Shayk managed to top herself at the “'Sorry Angel” premiere where she heated things up with a red dress with daring cutouts. All eyes were on Shayk once again at Chopard Secret Night where she showed off her left leg in a green velvet cocktail dress. Her gown was only made more arresting with Chopard jewels decorated around her neck. Could the camera be more in love with this woman?
#6: Cate Blanchett
This Oscar-winner classes up any event with her tasteful wardrobe. The jury president donned an exquisite black one-shoulder gown on the fifth day at Cannes for the “Girls of the Sun” premiere. However, it was her leading a women’s march to call attention to the lack of female representation at Cannes over the years that caught eyes the most. Over the course of the festival, she donned anything from a black jumpsuit, to a subtle black suit with an over-the-top red bow in the back, keeping all eyes on her. Some other standout ensembles were her optical Iris Van Herpen Couture dress, as well as her rainbow Givenchy Haute Couture creation. No matter what the color, Blanchett is always a vision.
#5: Salma Hayek
Along with Cate Blanchett and 80 other women, Salma Hayek also took part in the women’s march while wearing a gleaming blue dress. Hayek would show her support for women in film by attending a few other events, showcasing some more gorgeous outfits in the process. At the Women in Motion program, the Mexican actress modeled a lace dress complemented by red ribbons. Her best look was displayed at the Women in Motion Awards Dinner, however. Hayek once again decided to go with blue in a sleeveless Gucci gown. As glamorous as the dress may be, it was the pearly necklace and Boucheron jewelry that made Hayek the envy of everyone else in attendance.
#4: Deepika Padukone
Of all the ladies at Cannes, this Bollywood bombshell perhaps took the most chances with her extravagant fashion choices. Fortunately, her ambitious wardrobe paid off with marvelous results. Padukone looked angelic in a white floral Zuhair Murad creation, though the plunging neckline made the look sultry as well. The Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira jewelry only added to this dazzling look. The Indian actress took an even greater risk for the “Ash Is the Purest White” premiere in a show-stopping pink Ashi Studio Couture dress. Not everyone can pull off a dress with this much flare, but Padukone most certainly does.
#3: Bella Hadid
This American model was like a chameleon at Cannes 2018, adopting too many stylish looks to keep track of. Hadid took a unique approach at the Magnum VIP party where she wore a grey mini dress paired with a matching blazer. She went bigger for an “Ash Is Purest White” screening, dominating the red carpet in a strapless pink gown. Hadid stood out once again at the Dior dinner in a scarlet dress designed to make heads turn, while Fashion For Relief was an opportunity for her to showcase her abs in a shimmery black gown. The stunning silver gown she wore to the “Blackkklansmann” premiere rounded out a diverse wardrobe unlike any other.
#2: Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o has yet to disappoint us with her stylish choices and her appearance at Cannes this year further proved that she’s one of this generation’s greatest fashion icons. The “Black Panther” star was a regular swan princess while attending the “Sorry Angel” premiere. The reason Nyong’o places so high on this list, however, can be primarily attributed to the Prada dress she wore to the Chopard Secret Night Party. Nyong’o swirled around in a magnificent pink gown with so much personality that it practically felt alive. Although a dress like this might seem untamable to some, it’s an ideal fit for Nyong’o’s signature passion, grace, and ability to rock virtually any article of clothing.
Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions:
Marion Cotillard
Léa Seydoux
Sara Sampaio
#1: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Designer Michael Cinco concocted a divine gown for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s arrival at the “Girls of the Sun” screening. Encompassing a smorgasbord of colors ranging from blue to purple, the dress gave off the impression of gazing into a kaleidoscope. The designer revealed that the spectacular 20-foot train was inspired by “a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.” The dress she donned for “Sink or Swim” might’ve been shorter on colors, but it more than compensated with glitz and polish. From the breathtaking train to the shimmering top, this gown couldn’t have been more meticulously constructed. Between these two very different – yet equally mesmerizing – dresses, this Miss World titleholder easily secured her place at the top of our list.
