#10: Gabriel & Emily

“Emily in Paris” (2020-)
When Emily moves to Paris, it isn’t long before she has a meet-cute with head chef and attractive neighbor Gabriel. Problem is, Gabriel is very much dating Emily’s new friend Camille. Things only get more complicated from there. Despite all of this, the two share a wonderfully spontaneous first kiss when Emily returns to Gabriel at the restaurant. It’s an exciting testament to the pair’s chemistry. These intimate kisses only get hotter as the series goes along, and their love entanglement grows ever more knotty with additional love interests. Ça c’est l’amour.

#9: Jonathan & Susan

“Tick, Tick... Boom!” (2021)
This musical biopic based on the life of its composer, Jonathan Larson, includes love entanglements as well. Larson and his girlfriend Susan cuddle in the frosty night on a rooftop. As Susan tells him about a teaching opportunity at Jacob’s Pillow, the two share a tender kiss. Their sweet relationship is not without trouble, as Susan breaks up with Larson and Larson’s health becomes compromised. Even so, they never stop caring for each other, and Susan’s support helps Larson move forward in his career ambitions. Sadly, Larson died before seeing the great success of his project “Rent.’ But this scene reminds us that the talented Larson did live and love once, and it was worth it.

#8: Dexter & Emma

“One Day” (2024)
You know you’re going to get a good kiss scene with a romance drama. University students Emma and Dexter first meet at their graduation ball, beginning a friendship and letter correspondence. Though Emma is working class while Dexter comes from privilege, their platonic relationship quickly grows into something more. While in Paris, despite her new boyfriend and his recent divorce, Emma’s longing for Dexter and his attraction to her leads to this kiss. The build-up of these twelve episodes was worth it, and Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall’s sizzling chemistry is pure perfection. Who knew fake tonsillitis was the perfect lead-in to a kiss?

#7: Joe & Nicky

“The Old Guard” (2020)
A superhero film with a memorable kiss? We’re sold already. Joe and Nicky are not boyfriends. They are more than that, having been lovers for over a millennium, working as immortal mercenaries. These incurable romantics met during the Crusades and have been together since. When they are captured and the soldiers mock Joe’s concern for Nicky, Joe gives a heartwarming speech about how much Nicky means to him. It speaks to just how long these two have been in love. Their subsequent kiss is everything, full of passion, tenderness, and centuries of history. It's rare for a superhero film to include such poignant love scenes, but “The Old Guard” pulls it off spectacularly.

#6: Daphne & Simon

“Bridgerton” (2020-)
Was this the relationship that launched a whole Netflix franchise? This adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel series brought innocent debutante Daphne Bridgerton and rakish duke Simon Basset’s love story to the small screen. Neither Daphne’s determination to marry nor Simon’s determination never to can deter this pair’s attraction to one another. As they pretend to be courting each other in a mutually beneficial agreement, this pretense quickly becomes deliciously real as Daphne gets a proposal from Prince Friedrich himself. Their explosive hedge maze kiss has equally explosive consequences for them both. But as they would say, it was totally worth it.

#5: Joanne & Noah

“Nobody Wants This” (2024-)
We go from rake and virgin love dynamics to believer and nonbeliever ones. Joanne is an agnostic podcaster and Noah is a rabbi with a girlfriend. But none of that seems to matter when they meet and there is an instant attraction. Still, they’re just friends, and friends don’t kiss each other. Right? Their sumptuously unbroken “goodbye” kiss is less “goodbye” than the start of something…well, not-so-new. Perfectly shot and executed, these two kiss with unhurried relish, as if they want it to last forever. It’s a fresh direction to take instead of another will-they-won’t-they romance. If nobody wants this, then we’re “nobody.”

#4: Nick & Charlie

“Heartstopper” (2022-)
This critically-acclaimed TV adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel is coming up roses. It follows classmates Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson as they fall in love. While Charlie has been out for a long time, Nick struggles with his new attraction. But love wins out, as the two boys share a tense but tender first kiss. The novel use of animation, as well as their second, more fulsome kiss, is winning. This portrayal of young love is as sweet as it is believable. Nick and Charlie share many kisses, particularly in the second season, but this one they share is about as perfect as it gets.

#3: Lara Jean & Peter

“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” (2018)
Speaking of literary adaptations, this adaptation of Jenny Han’s novel by the same name is pure rom com goodness. When high school junior Lara Jean’s letters to crushes end up sent to those boys, Lara Jean finds herself facing all of them. When one of them, Peter, proposes fake dating to make his ex-girlfriend jealous, sparks inevitably fly. Their will-they-won’t-they culminates into a truly unforgettable scene, with Lara Jean kissing Peter in a hot tub. This kiss was so hot, it even won an MTV Award in 2019. There are many obstacles to get through before these two live happily ever after—namely, the arrival of Lara Jean’s other crush, John. But nothing beats this award-winning kiss.

#2: The Darkling & Alina

“Shadow and Bone” (2021-23)
Let’s face it, this ship was always the most popular of the series, more so than the canon one. Even in Leigh Bardugo’s original series, the relationship between Sun Summoner Alina Starkov and powerful Shadow Summoner, the Darkling, has always been rife with sexual tension. In Netflix’s popular adaptation, the chemistry becomes all-too palpable, culminating in this spicy scene during the Winter Fête. The choreography of this electric kiss is well done, full of emotion and attention to detail. Even its interruption only makes it more hot. Though these two could and would never be endgame, they definitely prove the adage of “opposites attract.”

We all live in a Kanthony world, it seems. Perhaps the most popular “Bridgerton” couple, Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton’s enemies-to-lovers trajectory is filled with witty banter, sharp arguments, and increasingly longing glances. But things take a turn for the dramatic when Anthony becomes engaged to Kate’s sister, Edwina. Their sexual tension is so thick, even Edwina sees it and cancels their wedding. Their wild first kiss in the church, beautifully shot in multiple angles, could have set the building on fire. Fortunately for them—and for us—Anthony and Kate finally confess their love and get married. Thank goodness.
