Top 10 The Boys Powers

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 powers from “The Boys”.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the best super abilities we’ve seen in the Amazon series. Since some of these displays of power are tied to major plot points, a spoiler alert is in effect.

Let us know in the comments which superpower from “The Boys” you would want!

#10: Super Strength

One of the most common abilities in “The Boys” universe is super strength. Queen Maeve has lifted fully grown men up with barely any effort, used a single foot to kick a muscular dude across the room, and put so much power in her legs that she leaps ridiculously high into the air. A-Train has literally pulled a train by himself to re-train his body. And Homelander’s strength is so off the charts he can throw a criminal into the air with one hand. While these characters can control how strong they are at any given moment, they often lose control during battles. If you manage to survive a hit from these superpowered beings, consider yourself extremely lucky.

#9: Elasticity

The ability to stretch your body at will is a — pun intended — extremely flexible superpower. The hypocrite moralist Ezekiel is the most famous user of this power on the show. He’s able to extend his limbs in opposite directions across a large stage, without much effort or pain. Ezekiel can also stretch and retract his limbs in mere seconds. If his opponent is standing far away from him, he can extend his arms to close the gap before his enemies know what hit them. Although Ezekiel seems more concerned with being famous than he is with saving the day, his elastic powers would make him a valuable asset on any superhero team.

#8: Reading Minds & Memories Through Touch

If you ever wished you could tell what other people were thinking, then you'd have a lot in common with Mesmer. This former hero can read people's minds just by touching them. Mesmer’s power is so sensitive that he’s able to read the mind of someone who is punching him. His ability also allows him to view a person’s past and access buried memories. All of his mental abilities would make him a fantastic detective if he applied himself. But Mesmer’s selfish and greedy nature led him to waste his telepathic powers on achieving fame in Hollywood, getting rich and seducing fans.

#7: Invisible & Invincible Skin

Translucent might have one of the best versions of invisibility in comic book history. At a moment’s notice, he can turn his skin into a special metamaterial that bends light around his body. This makes Translucent appear invisible to the naked eye. His skin also provides protection from dangerous attacks. Crowbars, speeding cars, and bullets can’t dent his tough body. His powers only have two major drawbacks. Since Translucent can only bend light around his skin and not around the material he's wearing, he has to be completely naked to become invisible. And his insides aren’t as resilient as his skin. But Translucent’s weaknesses hardly matter if he gets the drop on his enemies beforehand.

#6: Telekinesis

Trailers for the second season of “The Boys” told us that more superpowered beings are on the way. One of these mysterious figures seems to possess the power of telekinesis. From what we've seen so far, this person will be able to throw people around like rag dolls, by just moving their own hands. This mysterious figure also seems able to push multiple objects and enemies back without breaking a sweat. It's unclear whose side the telekinetic figure is on, but whoever faces this super-powered being on the battlefield should pack a parachute, because they’ll probably be sent flying.

#5: Super Speed

Blink — and you'll miss A-Train speeding right by you. After outrunning a bullet when he was a young, he began training intensely to hone his speed. When A-Train still wanted to get faster, he started taking an illegal drug called compound V. The substance enables him to run at the speed of sound and move so fast that beams of light shot directly at him appeared to be moving in slow motion. While A-Train’s powers don’t have any major drawbacks, his abilities are extremely dangerous to others. Anyone who stands ends up in his running path can be fatally injured as soon as he hits them. A-Trains obsession with speed and reckless nature makes him one of the most dangerous speedsters around.

#4: Heat Vision

Throughout “The Boys”, heat vision is presented as a versatile and extremely dangerous ability. When Butcher needs to escape a secret facility, he finds a baby that can shoot laser beams from their eyes and aims it at his enemies. But it's Homelander that truly demonstrates what heat vision is capable of. Although he could lightly burn his enemies, the sadistic Homelander usually makes his eye beams hot enough to melt metal and cut down his enemies. His lasers are so feared that even his fellow heroes get shook whenever his eyes start glowing. Hopefully, the baby grows up to use their heat vision more responsibly.

#3: Accelerated Healing

When Kimiko (or, The Female of the Species) broke A-Train’s femur, we thought he’d be out of commission for a while. But after he used compound V to enhance his accelerated healing abilities, he was ready to run again within days. But A-Train’s impressive recovery is nothing compared to Kimiko’s regenerative healing factor. After receiving several potentially fatal wounds from the powerful Black Noir, she recovers quickly. In a season 2 trailer, Kimiko is healing so fast that she’s seemingly unbothered by walking directly into gunfire. Although she can still be affected by, say, knockout gas, it doesn’t seem to affect her for long. If Kimiko’s healing abilities continue to grow, she may become impossible to take down.

#2: Flight

Look in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a...very sadistic superhero! When Homelander’s not shooting laser beams or punching his enemies to pieces, he’s effortlessly soaring through the skies. His precise control over his flying abilities makes him well-nigh completely unstoppable in the air. Homelander can also fly so fast that jets can’t even keep up with him. With his insane flight speed and precision, he can go wherever he wants to on Earth, in no time at all. If the U.S. government and Vought International weren’t keeping Homelander in check, there’s no telling where he’d fly off to....and what he would do when he got there.

Before we empower our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Electrokinesis
Retractable Claws
Enhanced Reflexes
X-Ray Vision
Enhanced Durability

FAKEOUT #1: Aquatic Telepathy

Okay, just kidding.

#1: Harnessing and Channeling Energy

You might want to cover your eyes before looking at our top entry. Annie January, AKA Starlight, has the ability to absorb electricity and convert it into powerful energy. This enables her to glow, blind her enemies and shoot intense beams of light from her hands. Annie's abilities make it easy for her to disorient enemies before swiftly taking them down. And since she draws power from electricity, it's extremely unlikely she’ll run out of energy while patrolling her neighborhood. The fact that Annie's tremendous light abilities can be so easily recharged make her an absolute powerhouse. No matter what obstacles are thrown her way, you can never dull Annie’s shine.
