Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Best Teen Movie Bloopers.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the funniest missteps from all of our favorite teen flicks. If we missed any of your favorites, let us know in the comments below.
#10: I Don’t Love You
“To All the Boys: Always and Forever” (2021)
One of the best things about the “To All the Boys” trilogy is the chemistry between Lana Condor and Noah Centineo as Lara Jean and Peter. To our absolute delight, that chemistry extends to the films’ blooper reels as well. In the gag reel for the third installment, Condor and Centineo have the same zany, romantic connection they have in the film. They’re constantly ragging on each other, and one of our favorite moments comes at the very end. Pointing at the screen, Lara Jean shows Peter just how far away they’ll be when they go to college. She then stares at him and flatly says, “I don’t love you.” That negging energy makes us laugh every single time.
#9: Window Malfunction
“Back to the Future” (1985)
Who hasn’t had trouble keeping a window open? You’re not the only one, Michael J. Fox! “Back to the Future” stars Fox as Marty McFly, a high schooler who accidentally gets sent back in time to 1955. And the bloopers are just as zany and funny as that premise. In one sequence, no matter how hard Fox tries, he just can’t keep the window open. Sneaking out is hard enough without the window coming crashing down on you every single time. At one point, Fox thinks he’s got it and sticks his leg out. But just as he gets too comfortable, the window slams shut once more.
#8: Don’t Be Suspicious
“Juno” (2007)
Have you ever heard a word one too many times, and all of sudden that word starts to just sound strange? We can only imagine that’s what happened to Elliot Page during this clip. The scene starts with Page’s character Juno talking to Jennifer Garner’s Vanessa, the woman who is going to adopt Juno’s baby. Garner accidentally uses the word suspicious in place of another word in the scene, and it’s just wrong enough that Page starts to laugh. And that’s the end of it. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot get over the word suspicious. Don’t be suspicious, Elliot!
#7: Suck on That!
“Mean Girls” (2004)
Janice Ian’s speech in “Mean Girls” during the feelings sharing session is one of the film’s most iconic moments. But that apparently wasn’t the first time Lizzy Caplan used that famous phrase. In the gag reel for “Mean Girls,” Caplan can be seen goofing around with actor Daniel Franzese as they stick meat on each other’s faces. Someone calls Lizzy’s name offscreen, seemingly reprimanding her for goofing off. Does she quiet down? No way. Instead, she screams out “suck on that” and then stands up and throws the piece of meat in her hand. An icon.
#6: Stadium Fall
“The Princess Diaries” (2001)
This blooper was so good, it actually made the film’s final cut. In a scene between Lilly and Mia in “The Princess Diaries,” they can be seen walking on the school bleachers. As actress Anne Hathaway takes one particular step, she completely misses her footing. Hathaway falls through the gap between seats, prompting Heather Matarazzo to ask her if she’s okay through halting laughs. The fall might have been an accident, but the ensuing moment was so funny and the two actresses handled things so professionally that it made the final cut.
#5: Johnny Depp’s Brother
“Scream” (1996)
He may be known as Jughead’s dad on “Riverdale” now, but back in the 1990s, Skeet Ulrich was something of a phenomenon. The actor made a name for himself as Billy Loomis in “Scream,” but there was another thing he also had going for him. He looked incredibly similar to the already famous Johnny Depp. And that fact wasn’t lost on his “Scream” costars. So much so that in the blooper reel for the movie, Jamie Kennedy makes a joke out of it. In response to the idea that a guy like him could never land a girl like Neve Campbell, Kennedy, incensed, says, “I’ll show Johnny Depp’s brother!” It gets us every time.
#4: Get Out of Cars, Much?
“Superbad” (2007)
Sometimes it’s hard just being a person moving through the world. If there’s one thing the “Superbad” gag reel taught us, it’s that. Whether it’s trying to lightly and respectfully punch someone in the boob or dealing with bees, making movies can be hard. But our favorite moment of pure human idiocy involves Seth Rogen and a not-very-elegant exit from a car. As he exits a cop car, Rogen trips and falls flat on his face. Everyone inside the vehicle starts cutting up, and someone in the backseat makes the excellent crack: “Get out of cars, much?”
#3: The Punch That Wasn’t
“10 Things I Hate About You” (1999)
The blooper reel for “10 Things I Hate About You” is one of the funniest teen gag reels from the 1990s. It showcases the real comedic chemistry between Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, including a hysterical moment where Ledger surprises her with a kiss. But one of the most memorable bloopers is tied to one of the film’s greatest moments. Bianca punching Joey is a delightful moment in the film, but an entirely different punch occurs in the bloopers. In the clip, Joey punches Cameron at the prom. After the punch, Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks up witheringly before he and his friend Michael attack Joey, with a little help from Bianca. Andrew Keegan, the actor playing Joey, just can’t keep it together.
#2: From the Tippy?
“The Edge of Seventeen” (2016)
One of the best teen movies of the 2010s has to be “The Edge of Seventeen.” Kelly Fremon Craig’s directorial debut also has a hysterical gag reel, mostly due to the wonderful comedic chemistry between Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson. One hilarious blooper includes Steinfeld unable to keep it together at her character’s new haircut. But the best gags involve Steinfeld and Harrelson keeping things chaotic. During one particular classroom scene, Harrelson and Steinfeld just cannot stop cracking up. But it’s not just them. Someone off camera is also having a hard time keeping it together, so they can’t even reprimand the two performers. These two together are just chaos personified.
#1: Slap Take
“Easy A” (2010)
A good, sharp slap in a comedy, if done well, can always elicit a response from the audience. But the way the “Easy A” gag reel cuts together this particular slap makes us laugh harder than ever. At the beginning of “Easy A,” Olive agrees to pretend to sleep with her friend so people don’t find out that he’s gay. This entire scene is hysterical, but at the very beginning, Olive slaps her friend across the face to get him into line. In the gag reel, we see all the unused takes of this slap, edited together in rapid succession. It’s a hysterical section in an already amazing blooper video.
